that girl-

call her rapunzel only she'll make ropes out of razors and cut up your hands

-she'll probably give up one day and learn to deal with loss:

ambulances bringing the days when roses and violets lose their colours

(nothing sincere ever rhymed with blue anyway, you understand)

was it worth it though, in the end, was it really worth it

daddy's little dividend should've thought that one through;

but they all looked so surprised! something bitter something blue,

and a sixpence for her shoe – throw it butbecarefulwhatyouhit,

find safe ways to savour consequence –

hush, dear, everyone always said – dropping names and guards and gazes

contriving tragedy in progress. how these tired muscles ache!

(such a pity)so much thought and yet so little sense
