I miss you

though there was no us

there was a kind of love

an understating of intellectuals

I loved you

you were real

beyond any imagination

everything I’ve ever wanted

but never thought to ask for

intelligence in the realm of intellect

knowledge in the ream of worldliness

humor in the realm of sarcasm and wit

I had a boyfriend

but, I think, I wanted you more

and as I stood in your arms

on our last night

I sobbed twice as hard

because I’d never know

this embrace

half as well as I’d like

I wished and I sobbed

please, let this night last

forever

please, let this person know

I adore them

please, please, please

Drew, please, don’t ever let me go

because if you do

I’ll have to acknowledge

that we are leaving this place tomorrow

that means

this embrace won’t last

and that means

I may not survive
