beauty

beauty is a lie

made up by the beholders

who cannot see

beyond the disguises,

the illusions and facades

of things not there,

who pretend to see

what is concealed,

when the truth is,

they can’t even see past the surface.

Author’s Notes: This poem is the result of an activity in a creative writing book that I read. Basically, I was supposed to come up with a poem using a cliche as inspiration. As you can see, this was inspired by the proverb/cliche, “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder”.
