Poems For You
Chapter One
People always ask me what I would say
If I could speak with you once more
Have one more heartfelt conversation
With the one that I adore.
If I could talk to you again
I'm not quite sure what I would say
The ways that I could make them sound
Without all the meaningless cliche.
I'd ask,
"Why'd you leave us?"
You'd say you didn't have a choice
That you didn't mean to leave in a fuss.
I'd say,
"What's it like up there?"
You'd say that you didn't hurt anymore
That the weather now was always fair.
I'd proclaim,
"I love you."
You'd say that you did too
And you'd tell me that you always knew.
I'd inquire,
"Are you proud of me?"
I don't know what you would answer
And I don't think I would agree.
I'd declare,
"I'm sorry."
You'd say, "What for?"
I think I'd say, "Because I can't see you anymore."
But I don't think that would be the reason
I think the reason would be,
Quite simply...
"That I can live and you cannot."
