Author's Note: This is a copy-change of lyrics to a song by Suzanne Vega called "Ironbound." It's a good song - you should check it out. Anyway, yes, credit to her for form etc.

Solitude

In the solitude section, near Unity Hall

Where the lonely ones come to escape from it all

The air so still

Unbroken until

Someone’s story passes her by

Trees and brambles cut the light on the ground

Into fractaloid shadows and the paths curve ‘round

Through the breath and green

The light and cream

Silky texture of the page

Full of silence, comfort, and ease

Writing her words that aren’t meant to please

Away from the boisterous friendships

“Lives will twine like vines on a fence,”

She says, “They reach out for love, they strive to make sense,

They’ll get hopelessly mixed

With nothing betwixt.”

She pauses then to kiss.

Stands from the grass, onto the path

He whispers to her that she can relax

When she’s with the needy people

In the solitude section, near Unity Hall

Where the lonely ones come to escape from it all

The air so still

Unbroken until

Someone’s story passes her by

She stops at the door, fingers his ring

Touches the knob, feels a longing

Away from the boisterous classroom
