Prologue

When the Daughter of Brandon Vladivitch Prose was born a red fox, it was clear that she had inherited little of his blood, taking after her esteemed mother instead. When it was deemed that she would follow in the paw prints of the lady ambassador Melissa Prose, her father begged that his child be raised for several years in his homeland of northern Russia for a few years before entering training for her duties. Between his position as a white and the bearer of Midori’s sacred robe, his request was granted.

Fearful for the life of her only granddaughter, Melissa’s mother recalled the lonely pair to Japan, where they remained for a year in mourning. When the child turned four, a marriage was arranged for her to the son of an influential family across the ocean, and the young Lee was sent to their realm when Lady Prose declared herself once again ready to take on her duties.
