A single drop of rainwater,

Moonlight shining through it,

Illuminating the water-slicked drive,

Hangs in a delicate balance.

A delicate balance that takes merely a second,

But making its way solidly through eternity.

Youthful shouts can be heard

And childhood shakes its dirt-dealt locks.

When you were a child, the rain was wet, wild, cold,

But so much fun to play in the mud it left behind.

Your mother, father, aunt, all told you to come inside.

But you never wanted to.

The storms, the dark, ominous clouds, the deep

Bone-shaking call of thunder, the bright camera-flash of lightning.

All reverberate deep inside your mind, your body, your heart,

Ringing in your ears until it’s all you hear.

The water falls, hurtling towards you with intense accuracy.

You stand, head back, eyes closed, rain spattering in the mist.
