The blood runs hot, the body is devoured
and on our knees, we take communion.
Sin is cleansed by fire:
sloth, envy, anger, greed
rear their heads and burn away;
we're in confessional, speaking
every single base desire
in hopes of absolution, whose imminent arrival
has us sweating bullets, clasping hands,
whispering, pleading
for the relief,
doing our feverish penance
in the throes of the passion, rapture impending
and the air thick with smoke
of candles and incense.
It's got us breathing heavily,
tightening in anticipation
of the moment that we can finally become the lovers
who art in heaven, hallowed be this thing,
when the kingdom comes and our will is done
on earth (we are in heaven)
trespasses are forgiven as we forget those trespasses
against us, and we are led by temptation
and delivered from the evils of the day
for this is the Power, and the Kingdom of Hearts and Glory
forever and ever
in our bed.
