Sonnet #9: Crystal Eyes
Hide your eyes behind cerulean dreams.
It is your eyes of crystal that haunt me.
‘though not hollow, just something rarely seen
Even in portraits sketched, or a masterpiece.
A mural, your eyes deserve to be in it
Though I harbor not the talent to paint
My pen a brush, your eyes be the pallet
Dipping the quill in your sapphire saints.
I’ll shade you in with hue of my ink.
And when your lotus rises with the sun
I will count each time you decide to blink
Then upon the canvas, your image done.
An artist captured beauty? ‘Tis a lie
Unless the easel holds your crystal eyes!
