Chapter 17:

All I could do was stare at him. Zeke...That's the same thing he asked when I was looking for Sage. I move back a bit watching him. How did he get here and so close without Jake noticing?

"Some humans are so odd. You mention death like it's nothing. Then when you get close to it or it gets close to you. You freeze or panic."

I move back a bit more watching him. But he keeps walking closer. He really needs to stop walking. His fangs are too sharp...

I blink staring at him, I can't get any words to come out. After that last thought, I think my body is trying to shut down.

"Exactly my point."

I frown realizing I can't move back more and Jake isn't anywhere close. He's right I am pathetic! I think.

Zeke looked at me oddly a second before he stepped forward grabbing my ankle and pulling me out of the truck. I grab the door handle trying to pull myself back in the truck. That just caused him to tighten his grip on my ankle. I let go of the door handle when he pulled on my leg. I hold in a curse when I land on the ground by his feet. I'm going to have bruises.

"Let go of her!"

Zeke froze a second before he grabbed my arm yanking me up from the ground. I turn and look at the voice seeing Jake glaring at Zeke. I pull away from Zeke trying to free my arm but he growls yanking me in front of him.

"Zeke, let her go."

"Or you'll do what? Shoot me?"

I stopped moving after Zeke said that. One because last time Jake shot Zeke I ended up in the hospital. And two because Zeke's too close to my neck and he has his arms around my neck. His hold on me hasn't even loosened.

"Zeke..." Jake growls.

"What?! You don't want her around. Besides I need a new test subject." Zeke replies.

"E-excuse me?" I stutter out, Zeke sounded too happy about that and he's smiling.

Before Zeke can answer my question Jake attacked him. Zeke pushed me back when he saw Jake move. I land on my butt. I roll over a bit off a rock cursing. That hurt...

"Watch her!"

"huh?" I mutter. Who's Zeke talking too?

I ignore my own question standing up quickly as I back up. Jake and Zeke are fighting. I glance around quickly trying to figure out where we are. I sigh no one's around but me, Jake and Zeke. I glance around again, It looks like a desert. Dirt and rocks everywhere. The only building around is that old one.

I shake my head stepping back more, It's not like I can stop the two of them fighting. And I don't really want to get in between them either. I'll probably get hurt...so I'll just leave...

I stiffen when I notice I backed into something. I glance down at the dirt and see a shadow.

"Oh...crap"

When I turned around, what I saw more than surprised me. The person Zeke was talking to was the girl Vampire. The Vampire that killed Sage. I step back and her eyes never leave me, she's watching my every move. I stand there thinking about how I can get away from this situation. Zeke's behind and that girl Vampire is in front of me. I'm jarred from my thoughts when I hear something crack. That doesn't sound good. I stood there frozen, I can't make myself turn around.
