A bright light shone upon Gina’s face as she sat up in bed. A grin spread across her face when she remembered the night’s happenings.
‘I can’t believe it actually happened,’ she screamed inside her head and felt a sudden urge to do a happy dance.
Walking over to the wardrobe by the bed she picked out a plain, black, figure-hugging t-shirt, a pair of blood-red, fingerless gloves, a pair of red cargo pants made of a incredibly light fabric, and put her hair up in a messy bun just in time to smell an intoxicating aroma of bacon, eggs, muffins, sausage, milk, and orange juice. She could hear Austin humming to himself 4 doors down and Alan snoring lightly in the room beside her, and she could sense the people in the house by their auras: Alan’s was animal-like almost wild, Serenity’s was happy, energetic…and somewhat like a dying persons, Austin’s was friendly, inviting, and somewhat calming. He’s aura was also lined in happiness, strength and kindness.
“I’ll have to ask him about these changes.”
All of the sudden something landed on her head. Gina quickly and gently lifted off the object and cupped it in her hand. A small, exhausted, orange fairy child lay there sleeping. Her orange wings twitching, ever so often. Austin suddenly burst into the room.
“Hey Gina, you found your fairy, too?”
“My fairy?”
”Yep, Arina here told me that everybody that comes to Alastria, except those in the covenant, gets a fairy to keep them company.”
“So this little one is my fairy and Arina’s yours,” Gina said beckoning to the grinning fairy on top of Austin’s head.
“Yep.”
Arina flew over to Gina.
“The little one you have there is Sunburst. She’s the equivalent of 3 in human years.”
Sunburst yawned and sat up when she heard her name.
“What happened Arina,” the child whined tiredly.
“How many times have I told you not to try to keep up with me, Sunburst?”
“But, Arina… I was afraid of getting lost,” Sunburst whimpered unhappily.
“Hey now, it’s ok little one. Just try not to tire yourself out next time,” Gina cooed to the whimpering child.
“It’s you!! You’re my mommy,” Sunburst giggled happily latching on to Gina’s head and kissed her cheek. Gina looked wearily towards Arina.
“Sunburst lost her parents at a very young age. The elders took her in and raised her from 2 weeks old. She vowed that whoever she kept company would become her mother or father.”
Gina looked down at the small fairy who had taken to sitting in the palm of her hand.
“I would be honored to be your mother, Sunburst.”
Sunburst grinned ear to ear as they went downstairs to breakfast.
