Camaraderie Valentine

Smiles are a steady presence of mind.

Sad silences are cast carelessly over a shoulder.

Gems of laughter, the nonsensical, a brother.

Undue bells we never hear, but follow.

Undue sabotage of smiles with smiles,

Their light tyranny affecting like snowstorms,

When no snow waits after the initial sting.

Race, and pull of the spirits, pulled back up again.

Wait, and a joke to flutter lightly over May warmth.

We make each understated presence laugh.

We make each other laugh. Each brother.

Your smiles athirst for giving – my gently-wrapped gifts – and another, and another...
