love

love is
wearing shoes too big
for you and having someone
catch you when you fall
(to wipe away your tears)

being held during storms,
and having stories of princesses
and dragons told to you. 'will i
meet my prince?' you ask, and
mother smiles tenderly. 'one day,'
she whispers. 'one day.'
that is love.

love is
watching your friend's back,
making sure they don't get
hurt and helping them through the
rough&tumble times. it's learning
to put yourself first and help
others; it is an act of great
courage and selflessness.

it is being kissed under
the rain, lips touching, eyes
half-blind with droplets and smiling
as mouths crash down onto each other.
love is no matter what, love is reliving
moments like these even in old age.

love is—
having your parents smiling proudly
at you on your wedding day, the
first breath of your newborn child. growing
old together, teaching your children
together, learning and making mistakes
together.

love is
being held closely by a loved one.
love is
feeling wanted, feeling needed;
love is unconditional and has no
boundaries.

love is love for a reason,
because it cannot be defined.
