I look upon the day fondly

Of when everything to me was new

And I sadly look on longing

For those years so short and few

How I wish for those simpler times

A time of childhood things long past

Now just a hazy memory

As seen through a looking glass

But as that rosy image shatters

As that last glint of childhood dies

As innocence my age batters

Forcing adult things upon my young unwanting eyes

Virtue and innocence are lost quickly

In this world of hate and war

But I know if men could see with simple eyes

Tears and suffering would reign no more

For the day when men will see

With eyes honest, true and fair

Is the day that God shall answer

This my humble mortal prayer
