"Shawna!" Avie yelled, waving to her from across the street. Shawna looked at her, trying to get across busy 4th street. Avie was her best friend. Although incredibly odd, she loved her and her quirks all he same.

Shawna looked back across the street at Avie. She was bounding across the street. Behind her a car was coming, and the driver didn't see her. "Avie, look out!" Shawna screamed, bounding out into traffic herself.

She was half way through the first lane. Avie was just walking, completely unaware of the car that was mere feet from her. Shawna’s heart seemed to stop. She could envision the car hitting Avie, crushing her slender body. Life seemed to move in slow motion. She yelled again, but the traffic was to loud for Avie to hear her. Shawna was horrified! She thought as hard as she could, to any power that might hear her. She wished as hard as she could, ‘Avie, get out of the way’…

Avie turned around, noticed the car, and jumped out of the way. The driver, who was on a cell phone, had just realized what had just almost happened. Shawna gave the car a kick on the bumper, as it pulled back into traffic. Stunned, she turned to see if Avie was okay, and could not help but laugh. Being typical Avie, she was running down the block after the car yelling about as many curses as she knew at the driver.

Laughing, Shawna went running after her. She caught up to her within about 30 seconds. She had always been a fast runner. Even after loosing the car, they kept running. Through downtown streets, through the park, they finally stopped when they got to the forest at the edge of town. They were always doing thing like that, randomly taking off at a run. They both fell down at the foot of a great oak, laughing and trying to catch their breath.

“Damn it Shawna! Why do we do that! Why? Gods, one of these days I’m going to die!” Avie panted, lying on her back in the grass looking like she was about to have a heart attack.

“Look, I know you’re like some eagle with legs, but I’m a mere human! The day I can keep up with you is the day pigs fly! I mean, I mean, god…” She said shaking her head.

Shawna was sitting ageist a tree, laughing her head off at her friends antics. “Avs, you’re fine, and you could keep up if you would get your ass off the computer chair once in a while”

Avie shot her a glair, “are you implying that I’m fat?”

“OH, yes, COMPLETELY! I mean I don’t know how your ass fits through the door. And that bikini last week? REALLY bad idea” Shawna joked. “I mean, your so heavy that…Ayeeeeee, GODS, what the hell Avie?!” Shawna yelled as a shaken bottle of soda squirted in her face.

“HAHAhaha” Avie giggled. Shawna was glairing daggers at her. She got up and walked deeper into the forest.

“Hey, where are you going? I’m sorry, okay? I was joking! You know that” Avie said chasing after her.

Shawna kept walking. She wavered from the path, and walked off into the bushes. This was a trail she traveled often, but had never showed anyone, not even Avie. It was getting dark, and under the cover of all the trees there was almost no light at all, but Shawna’s step never faltered. She could hear Avie stumbling after her, swearing at the dark, yelling for Shawna to slow down.

Shawna continued as she breathed in the darkness. She felt empowered by it, ready to take on anything. The powerful feeling in her was like she had just won an epic battle, or sky dived. It was amazing. She walked until she came to a place where the ground dropped off, and she jumped.
