When An Expectation Fails

When an expectation fails,

how should one react?

When love’s not returned

when faced with life’s losses

when hope is all but snuffed out

and once shining eyes are dimmed?

Should one cry and despair?

Should one turn one’s back

on the world and disappear,

Or face it boldly

Fighting to the very end?

Sad to say, I’m not that strong

and I could only sink deeper

in the seas of disappointment

but there’s a glimmer in my eye

of hope, of better days ahead.

So leave me alone

let me deal with it my way,

And perhaps, you will see

me smile once more.
