Brown Coat

You hunch against the cold

curling into yourself

as if that’s the only place you find refuge.

Passers-by pass you by –

no glance from them taints you,

no word from you to break the shell.

And I wonder;

what brings you here in the sunshine

to barricade yourself against the world?

Nevertheless, I wish you well,

and hope you find your peace.
