“What the fuck are you doing?!” Kyle heard screamed above him.
“Huh?” he lifted his head up opening his burning eyes. Looking around he realized that he was on the porch at Jimmy’s house. “How did I…?”
“How did you is right! Do you have any idea how fucking worried I was about you?! It’s almost one in the morning! I’ve been calling everybody, and I was just gonna go leave to that stupid ass park!”
“Casper?” Kyle looked around. Did he really carry him all this way?
“What? Casper? Who the fuck is Casper? Don’t tell me you’re pulling that whole I see dead people shit with me!” Jimmypop groaned, grabbing him by the arm to help him up.
“You’re eyes are red.” Jimmy noticed looking over at him as he leaned on his shoulder. “You been crying?”
“No.”
“Right, you can forget about going on any more dates, dipshit.”
Kyle rolled his eyes. “Yes mother dearest.”
“Oh fuck you, Ky!” Jimmy snapped, dragging him up to his room.
--
“We’re so proud of you, Kyle. We wouldn’t trade you for the world.” His parents complimented.
His dad was holding up his new art piece smiling down at him, and his mother cooed him, telling him how much she loved him.
Kyle watched them with confused eyes.
“You…you’re not alive.” He muttered. But they just kept smiling saying how good of an artist he was.
Kyle shook his head, holding onto his hair with one hand and slowly putting it down as he looked behind his parents.
“What? What are you?” he asked, he was coming face to face with himself.
His other self walked step by step down the hallway with unwavering eyes, and an ax at causally at his side.
“What are you doing?!” Kyle screamed, trying to move past his parents, but a force pushed him back. He pushed against the unseen wall banging and banging.
“Look behind you! Look behind you!” he yelled to tell them.
His other self came up behind his parents, and Kyle screamed with tears as he dropped the ax along his mother’s shoulder like it was nothing. She collapsed to the ground looking up at her son.
“Wha?!” she begged. “Why are you doing this?! Help!” she called as Kyle brought the ax against her leg now.
Kyle went to his father now hewing at his neck this time, his dark blood splattering across Kyle’s face.
Kyle stared at the scene in front of him astonished, why couldn’t he stop it? He heard their desperate screams, and cries but he couldn’t do anything.
Kyle’s other self looked at him now finished with his parents and smirked, the blood on his face making him look all the more haunting, and then he disappeared just like that.
People were now appearing in front of Kyle, one by one, shaking their heads, crying and pointing fingers.
“Murderer.”
“What? No! No, I didn’t do it! I didn’t kill them!” he said, backing up against the door behind him.
Lex was there too crying, and shaking his head as well.
“I can’t believe you, Kyle. They’re your parents.”
“I didn’t do it! Lex, you have to believe me!” Kyle glanced down at his hands that were now covered in his parents’ blood.
“No, I-I,”
“Liar! He’s a liar! He’s a murderer!” they shouted coming towards him. Kyle turned and ran out the door, the thunderous clouds above sending down bowls of rain on his head.
Kyle glanced back at them seeing if they were still following, when he saw that they were he turned around, and ran into a chest.
Arms wrapped around him, and he screamed trying to yank away.
“I believe you, why are you trying to run away from me?” Casper asked, staring down at him, his eyes full of hurt.
“Ca-Casper?”
Casper smiled, his skin glowing in the storm. “I won’t let him hurt you, Kyle. I promise.”
“Who?”
“You of course.” Casper whispered, looking up at the sky.
Kyle gasped, his blue eyes popping open. What kind of nightmare was that?!
Kyle reached up to cover his mouth from the loud sobs coming from it. He hadn’t cried in so long.
“Jay.” He whispered, and got out of his bed, walking through the bathroom to his cousin’s room. Jimmy was asleep on his stomach in his boxers.
“Jay.” Kyle whispered softly, his eyes blurring with tears. “Jimmy.” He said a little louder.
Jimmypop jerked awake cocking his head, and narrowing his eyes trying to see if Kyle was really in front of him. When he saw his cousin’s tears, he instantly sat up.
“KyKy, what’s wrong?”
“I-I…I just had…a dream.” He stuttered. “And…can…I sleep in here?” he choked.
“Of course, you know that.” Jimmy said pulling the sheets up, Kyle crawled in beside him, hugging the sheets tightly to his face. This was just like old times when they would sleep by each other. Jimmy pulled Kyle to his chest, holding him close.
“No worries, KyKy. No worries.”
Kyle closed his eyes, focusing on Jimmy’s heartbeat.
--
“Hey! Hey, Ky wake up!” a voice shouted above him.
Kyle groaned, opening his eyes. Jimmy smiled above him, giving him a little wave.
“Time to get up, and help clean.” He ordered, eyeing Bricen on the floor who was squealing at him for his attention.
“What?!” Kyle shrieked.
“We have a rule in this house. If there’s a party then everyone helps clean up afterwards.”
“That’s so gay! I didn’t even do anything at the party!”
“Doesn’t matter,” Jimmy said, finally picking Bricen off the floor and kissing his chubby cheek.
“You came to the party, meaning you were apart of the party, meaning you have to get your lazy ass up and clean after the party. Move it!”
“I didn’t want to go to the party! You made me go down there!” Kyle shouted.
“Too late for that.” Jimmy said, giving him a wink and walking out.
Kyle groaned, what an asshole, he basically trapped him by inviting him to go to the party. Taking a quick shower, he tried to focus on anything but his dream last night, and he was thankful that Jimmy didn’t ask about it.
Cleaning with his ipod, he found, was a great way to make time go by faster. His thoughts of course were full speed.
How did he get home last night? If Casper did bring him home, then how did he know where he lived? Had he been following him? That was beyond creepy if he was.
Casper must have thought the date was shit then if he fell asleep, and he had to take him home.
“All the way down that hill?” Kyle asked out loud.
“Are you talking to me?!” Jimmy called, sticking his head in the living room. Kyle shook his head, reading his lips.
When he finished cleaning he sat on the bar stool, and watched his cousin cut up a banana for Bricen.
“So about last night…” Jimmy started. “Are you gonna tell me how you ended up asleep on the porch?”
“I-I have no idea.” Kyle whispered. He remembered crying about his parents, but did he really fall asleep that hard?
“Brittany was here asking about you.” Jimmypop said eating a piece of the fruit.
“I bet she was.” Kyle laughed. “She’s so weird.”
“Desperate.” Jimmy added going to Bricen’s high chair and feeding him.
“Hey, do you…?” Kyle started dazed.
“Huh? Do I what?” Jimmy asked.
“Do you know anybody named Casper?”
“Casper? You said that last night. You mean the movie, right?” Jimmy laughed, and Bricen squealed trying to mimic the sounds his father was making.
“No. I mean like a guy, do you know a guy named Casper?”
“Casper? Hmm.” Jimmy narrowed his eyes in remembrance. “Nope, then again I’m not really good with names. Nick remembers that for me.”
“What about someone named Night?”
“Night? Jesus Kyle, what kind of people are you befriending?”
“Nobody. It’s nothing, forget it.” Kyle said quickly, and hopped off the stool going up to his room. His cousin knew everybody. And would especially remember Casper, nobody could forget a face like his. It stuck in your mind. It was a face that you just knew was going somewhere. Maybe Casper wasn’t his real name?
--
It was a war. He was not making the mistake of looking away, he would not give in. He would not lose eye contact. He couldn’t move over enough, he couldn’t get away, those fingers would find their way.
Jimmypop glanced up in the rearview window at his cousin and son.
“Ky, why the fuck are you looking like that?!”
“I’m concentrating.”
“He’s seven months!”
“He’s sneaky, Jay! I’m not falling for those blue eyes. I know what he’s thinking—‘The second that Kyle looks away, I’m gonna pinch him.’”
“He can’t even pinch yet. He just likes your hair.” Jimmypop laughed.
“Well he pulls like a ten year old.” Kyle whined. Bricen had a strong ass grip, and when he got a hold of something he wouldn’t let it go for anything.
When they pulled up to Nicky’s gate, he was already outside, smiling brightly and jumping in the car to give Jimmy a big kiss.
“You’re hyper.”
“I missed you!” Nick giggled.
“Then skip with me today, I’m gonna be lonely.”
“No!”
“Please?” Jimmy pouted, Kyle rolled his eyes.
“I hate skipping, I miss too much.”
“Fine then, I’ll have lunch with you today.” Jimmy concluded. Nick squealed.
“Really?! You’ll come by?!”
“Yeah, sure.” Jimmy said, and then noticed that Nick suddenly frowned. “What?”
“I hate the way they throw themselves at you when you come to my school.” Nick whispered. Kyle understood where he was coming from. He was clearly on a date with Casper, but that didn’t stop the looks.
“Well then, we’ll eat in the car.”
“Okay.” Nick said smiling again.
--
Kyle made quick, short glances to the still object in front of him. He focused with all that he could, the choppy strands of hair flickered against his eyelashes as his hand drew and drew and drew.
Ms. Mane passed by glancing down at Kyle’s work, and smiled complimenting him.
“Looks like we have some true talent in this class now.”
Kyle smiled, and looked at Reston who had turned around to look, when they made eye contact Reston looked away.
“Oh and Kyle, they want to see you in the office.” Ms. Mane said.
“Really? For what?”
“Not sure, but you won’t know until you go, sweetie.” She said tapping his shoulder. Kyle nodded putting his things away and thinking about what they could want as he walked down the hallway.
--
Nicky practically ran out of his classroom to the food court not being able to control how excited he was to see his boyfriend.
When he moved through the double doors he frowned at the crowd around Jimmypop who was just sitting casually on a low cement wall.
Sometimes Nick hated how nice Jimmy was, yeah he was nervous when he first met him and hoped that he wouldn’t be a jerk. But now that they were dating it sort of bothered him because his niceness could be taken as flirting. And the fact that he was in his band and everything didn’t help, since they all seemed to love him.
Hugging onto his bag, he stood there staring, and watching Jimmy smile, and laugh and his heart fluttered.
He couldn’t be mad at this beautiful boy. The way he was sitting there with his straight hair that hung there and his eyes shining from the sunlight.
“He’s gorgeous.” Nicky whispered, “How did I get him?” Nick repetitively asked himself that question. “But he loves me, and I love him.”
Jimmy played with a piece of his hair, his head titled towards Nick, and his eyes lit up when he recognized him.
Hopping off the ledge, he excused himself gently, went over to him cupping his neck, and rubbing their noses together smiling in his face.
“Hey, beautiful.”
“I missed you.” Nick said. Jimmy nodded.
“Yeah.” He smiled and took his hand, waving at the other students, and taking Nick to his car.
Jimmy took out the meals that he had for them, Nicky’s of course vegetarian.
The couple ate peacefully by Jimmy’s car cuddling up and joking around. When they finished eating Nick had to literally tear Jimmy off of him because he just wanted to take him home with him instead of him going back to class. But Nick knew that he couldn’t miss his next class.
He blew Jimmy a thousand kisses and skipped off to class, glancing back at his boyfriend just to make sure he was real.
--
“I have to what?!” Kyle shrieked.
“I know it seems a bit much, but it really isn’t. It’s just something that we expect from out students.” The principal explained.
“You’re forcing me into a club.” Kyle stated.
“And especially since you’re new here, this will help you make some new friends. It will open your eyes to other students…besides that cousin of yours and his friends.” The principal said with a tight smile. She wasn’t even listening to Kyle, she just kept on with what she was saying.
“You seem to enjoy art, the Art Club is really a great club to join. Your aunt and uncle were the ones that recommended this.” She continued as if that was supposed to convince Kyle.
“This is so fucking gay.”
“Excuse me, young man?”
“Nothing.” Kyle said quickly, and got up. “Can I leave now?” He asked hearing the bell ring
“Yes you may.” She said narrowing her eyes; she’d have to watch him just like Jimmy.
As Kyle walked down the halls to his locker, cursing under his breath he saw Reston who stopped in front of him, Kyle’s eyes hardened.
“Did she talk to you about why joining a club is good for making friends?” Reston laughed, Kyle didn’t.
“The art club really isn’t bad though, you’d like it. I’m the president.”
“Well that’s fucking great for you.” Kyle said. Reston glared.
“Why do you hate me? I haven’t done anything to you.” He said, Kyle paused caught off guard by his seriousness.
“I-I…you just remind me of someone at my old school.”
“Well then let me just get cosmetic surgery, and then we can be friends.” Reston said with a disheartening sarcasm, and then he walked away. Kyle stood there awkwardly, what the hell was that all about?
--
Jimmy burst out in laughter, his son in the backseat blowing spit bubbles, and giggling.
“I forgot about the whole club thing. They tried doing that shit for me but I got kicked out of so many that they just gave up.” Jimmy explained to his cousin.
“Luck you.” Kyle sighed staring at the window.
A secret smile appeared on his lips when the thought of seeing Casper tonight came into his mind, he hoped that boy was out there.
--
“You came!” Kyle shouted running into Casper’s arms. Casper stepped back trying to gain his balance from the impact. It was so odd for him to now be hugging someone.
“Of course.” Casper whispered pulling away and holding Ky’s neck.
“Thanks for taking me home the other night.” Kyle whispered, his cheeks flaming from Casper’s intense eyes, he wished though that he wouldn’t wear those contacts.
“You’re welcome.”
“How’d you know where I lived?”
“I followed you home one night to make sure you were okay.” Casper admitted, looking away, embarrassed.
“Stalker.” Kyle muttered through fake coughs.
Casper laughed, and stared at his red converse.
“What?” Kyle asked, loving how he was able to tell when something was wrong with him so soon.
“It’s just…” Casper bit on his piercings. “What are we?” he said motioning his hand between them.
“Oh, I…” Kyle shrugged, they had all of a sudden been pretty close, but he liked it.
“What do you want to be?” Kyle asked, looking up through his bangs daringly. Casper smiled.
“I want to be more than friends.”
“Like boyfriends?” Kyle asked. Casper nodded. “I’ve never had a boyfriend.”
“Me neither.”
“Then it’s a first for the both of us, right?” Kyle smiled.
“Yup.” Casper agreed. The two stared at each other not sure what to do now.
What did a new “gay” couple do?
“Oh, yeah! I brought bubbles!” Kyle shouted breaking the ice. He reached in his sweater and took out two small bottles full of bubbles soap.
Casper smirked, he loved Kyle’s randomness.
The pair ran around blowing bubbles into each others faces, until Casper tripped and spilt his and tried to steal Kyle’s.
Some way, some how through all the playing around they ended up against a tree. Neither of the boys were sure how it happened, but it did.
Kyle with the bottle of bubbles in his hands, his back against the tree trunk, and trying to catch his breath.
And Casper pushed against him, his hair wild and blowing in the wind. He leaned his forehead against Kyle’s and Kyle closed his eyes.
“I don’t want to lose you.”
“What?” Kyle asked shocked. What kind of comment was that?
Casper had his eyes closed rubbing his head against Ky’s.
“You’re not gonna lose me, silly.” Kyle mumbled, that was the only thing he could think of, Casper looked so serious. He tugged on Casper’s hipbones. He had a big black and white striped sweater on tonight with black drain pipes.
“Yeah, yeah.” He wished, and kissed Kyle’s mouth.
“I want you to tell me all about your day, I wanna know everything.” He titled Kyle’s chin up. “Every detail.” He smiled, his eyes lighting up with excitement.
Kyle shook his head. “You’re a weird one sometimes, Casper.”
“Is that a bad thing?” Casper frowned.
“Nope.” Kyle smiled big kissing his cheek.
