Prologue

If everyone cared and nobody cried,

It was the year 734 on the Soren calendar. The twin moons were at their highest point in the sky the night war was declared. Neither side waited until morning, but instead jumped right into battle on one of the most sacred days on the Soren calendar.

But the Soren people weren't involved. North of both countries, they simply watched and waited as the Drậxl people invaded the much weaker Viorrey territory, taking them prisoner, killing them—exterminating them.

And yet the Soren kingdom remained isolationist. If the human population wanted to fight, then by all means let them.

A couple of months after the first battle, the war had surpassed the death toll of any war previously fought between any two nations. Everyone was affected, be they Drậxl, Viorrey, or even Soren. Soon, Soren citizens were helping when their government continued to stand idly by. These citizens helped the Viorrey people, providing them with shelter, but never spells or any other forms of their magic—that was highly illegal.

Many heroes arose over the years, but from the very beginning, two have stuck out more than any others—and they managed to work undercover at the same time. They were a team: Tighe and Ellyx, posing as soldier and prisoner, waiting until nightfall to take large groups of prisoners to safety.
