Grow Old, Grow Up

Why would you want to grop up? What’s wrong with being able to roll in the dirt and not be thought a bum, but simply a kid? To play video games all day, and finish homework at one in the morning? Why would you want to grow up? Even though either way you have no choice in whether or not to grow old, on choice in whether or not to pass through the four stages of childhood.

From ABC’s, to sentences, to rhyming poems, to essays

From building blocks, to legos, to mindstorms robotics

From baby food, to colored rice, to hamburgers, to pizza

From addition, to multiplication, to intergers, to linear equations

From continents, to compass rose, to exploration, to Constitution

From standard, to scientific, to graphing

From calculator, to computer, to laptop, to notebook

From crayons, to chalk, to pencils, to pens

From a lap, to a half mile, to a mile, to two miles

From one word, to full sentences, to real English, to Spanish

From Pre-School, to Kinder, to Elementary, to Middle

From picture books, to story books, to novels, to textbooks

From Nintendo 64, to Gamecube, to Nintendo DS, to Wii

You can try to slow the clock, though it never really slows; you can try to set back time, though it keeps going; you can try to keep a bit of your childhood—the bit that connects you with simple kid pleasures—and it will remain with you. Because although you do not have the choice in whether to grow old or not, you do have the choice in the decision to grow up or not.
