It’s not something you expect to see, right? I mean, you walk into your place, maybe expecting to see your housemate there, but definitely not a drop dead gorgeous chick with brown hair, streaked with blonde, sitting on your couch in a tank top and short shorts, reading a magazine.
Especially if said girl is not your girlfriend or your housemate’s…not as if your housemate would have a girlfriend afterall.
So I did what any red-blooded male would do. I stood there, forgetting completely that my arms were full of groceries, and stared at the beautiful creature that was now gracing my living room. She finally looked up at me, as if just realizing I had walked into my own place.
“How’d you get in?” I asked. Hey…I can speak!
“The door wasn’t locked, Einstein.” The girl said, smirking at me. “You gonna stand there staring at me all day and let whatever is in those bags go bad?”
“Oh shit!” I said, suddenly remembering the groceries…just as I got bumped.
“Geez, Jack…move a bit into the room if you’re gonna just stand there.” My housemate, Curtis, said as he walked around me. “God, what are you staring…Evie!” One of those girlish noises he makes from time to time emitted from his mouth as he spotted miss gorgeous.
“Hey Curt!” She said, jumping up from the couch. She dropped the magazine, crossed the room and hugged Curtis. This appeared to be no easy task for her since he seemed to be about half a foot taller then her. Well that…and the fact that he too was holding groceries.
“Girl, what are you doing here?” Curtis asked.
“What? I’m not allowed visiting you and seeing how you’re doing and...” Evie started.
“What do you want?” Curtis asked.
“Mum kicked me out.” Evie said. “I need a place to stay.”
“She actually did it this time?” Curtis asked.
“She says I bring more guys home then she does.” Evie said. “And she thinks I’m sleeping with the ones she has which so is not true and where the hell does she get off saying that shit about…” Curtis shifted his groceries and put a finger to her mouth.
“Let me put these away and then we’ll talk all right, sweet?” He asked.
“Fine.” Evie said. She helped out...mostly by letting Curtis tell her where some things belong in the kitchen while I did the rest of the work by bringing things from the car into the house.
“Ok…now that’s done…introductions.” Curtis said. Evie and I both rolled our eyes. “Evie this is Jack, vise versa.”
“Ok, whatever, anyways…” Evie said.
“Damn you’re impatient.” I said.
“Bite me, G.I Joe.” Evie said. For some reason my initial attraction to her actually increased. There weren’t a lot of girls like her at the school.
“Ok fine, Evie…what happened?” Curtis asked.
“Ok well mum says I bring home more guys then her and she accuses me of sleeping with her guys which is false on both accounts.” Evie said. “She’s the one that sleeps with my boyfriends and she has a guy at the house practically every week and I barely have a guy there every month.”
“So your mom falsely accused you of being a whore and kicked you out?” Curtis asked.
“Simple terms…yes.” Evie said. Wait a minute…her mom? These two aren’t related. I sat down and watched them, trying to figure out how they knew each other.
“And now you’re here asking if you can live with us?” Curtis asked.
“Babe, you’re all I got.” Evie said, pouting. “You wouldn’t put me on the streets would you?” I raised an eyebrow. Would this mean that Curtis is playing both sides of the fence? I wouldn’t blame him really…I don’t think any man, straight or not, could resist this girl.
“Evie, hun, of course I wouldn’t.” Curtis said. He suddenly turned to me. I looked at him. “Would you mind if she stayed here?”
“Well…” I said. Of course I wouldn’t but I didn’t want to make it seem like I was too eager.
“We do have a spare room.” Curtis said.
“I’ll help with rent and stuff.” Evie said. “I have a job already so it’s not like I’ll be freeloading.”
“I guess I wouldn’t mind.” I said. Evie squealed and threw herself at me, hugging me and kissing my cheek.
“Where’s your stuff, baby doll?” Curtis asked.
“I actually already have it all in that spare room.” Evie said, releasing me and turning to face Curtis. “I knew there was no way you’d be able to refuse me so I took a little tour when I got here and found the empty room. All my bags are there.”
“Oook.” Curtis said. “How’d you get here?”
“Bianca.” Evie said, as if it was the most obvious thing.
“Well alright then, let’s get you unpacked.” Curtis said. They headed up the stairs together, talking. I slumped back in my seat and thought this over. This hot young girl, possibly my gay housemate’s girlfriend (which technically would mean that he wasn’t actually gay but bi), is now going to be living with us, in the room right next to mine with a conjoining bathroom.
God this is gonna be entertaining.
Both Curtis and I came from rich families and so with just the two of us living in a fairly nice two storey house wasn’t a big financial drag. I had heard that Curtis’ parents had gotten devoirced and his dad remarried. That’s all I knew about his family and I didn’t bother prying.
“Oh!” I said, suddenly remembering something. Curtis had mentioned Evie before. He talked about her a bit. From the sounds of it, he was crazy about that girl. He had mentioned how protective he was of her and he actually enjoyed going out with her to the mall or other places like that. That’s all I knew though so I still didn’t know really anything about their relationship.
I jumped as my phone started ringing. Melinda, my girlfriend. I smiled and flipped over my phone before talking with her.
(Evie’s POV)
“Why do I have the sneaking suspicion Mr. Housemate downstairs does not know.” I asked, throwing a shirt into one of the dresser drawers. I watched Curtis with a smirk as he took it out and folded it.
“Whatever could you mean?” He asked, trying and failing at not smiling.
“You homo! You didn’t tell him that I’m just your step sister didn’t you.” I said.
“It’s more fun this way.” Curtis said. “I think he thinks you and me are together.”
“Ew, as if.” I said. “But I supposed we could keep him thinking that.”
“Of course, just act the way we always do.” Curtis said. “And then you can tell him.”
“Why me?” I asked.
“Again, it would be more fun that way.” Curtis said. I smirked and resumed my unpacking. “Remember to lock both doors to the bathroom.”
“There’s more then one?” I asked.
“Yeah, it’s conjoint between your room and his room.” Curtis said. “I get my own bathroom and there’s a half bathroom downstairs.”
“Oh, this could be interesting.” I said.
“Oh no it could not.” Curtis said. “Don’t be giving me reason to believe your mother.”
“Dude, I’m dating someone.” I said. “Contrary to popular belief, I am not a slut.”
“Yes because those clothes just sooo scream ‘lady’.” Curtis said.
“It’s April…it’s hot…you can’t expect me to cover up.” I said. Curtis crossed his arms. “Ok you can expect it but that doesn’t mean I’m gonna do it. Besides…my little ring doesn’t like to be hidden under clothes.” I looked down and tapped my belly button ring which had a little star charm hanging off it. I’m needle crazy. I have my belly button pierced, my nose pierced, my ears pierced three time each and I have a dragon tattoo on my lower back and a heart with wings, an arrow through it and a chair across it on my right ankle. Both tattoos were coloured, thanks to the money from my step-dad, who is also Curtis’ dad.
“Why do I just know that this is gonna end badly somehow?” Curtis said, looking at the ceiling.
“Years of experience boo-boo.” I said, kissing him quickly before bouncing out of the room.
