Tell Me Why
Sparkling angel,
I believe.
You were my savior in my time of need.
Blinded by faith, I couldn’t hear
All the whispers, the warnings to clear.
Rosaline walked the streets alone that night, her untamed hair blowing in the late summer wind. She was on her way to meet him, despite what her best friend told her. She just thought I was jealous of them, since I’d wanted to be with her since we were children. But no, now she was spoken for by the most handsome, most gentle man in the world.
Or so she thought.
A small smile crossed her natural cherry red lips at the thought of his face, at the thought of the perfect, crooked smile and the perfect golden amber eyes he had only for her. She didn’t understand what I didn’t like about Abaddon. He was sweet and kind and an over all gentleman to her. Granted, he was a few years older than the sixteen years she had under her belt, but I was just as old as he was. Plus Rosaline believed that love had no face, age or gender. I’d taught her that.
I see the angels,
I’ll lead them to your door.
There’s no escape now.
No mercy no more.
She didn’t hear me as I stalked in the shadows, following her to the man’s lair. I knew Abaddon was no good for her, and I was going to figure out just what he was up to. I’d show my best friend the evil intentions I knew he had, and then I’d make him pay.
No remorse cause I still remember…
The smile when you tore me apart.
Abaddon slid his door open to the apartment, beckoning Rosaline in. She smiled and leaned up, planting a light kiss on his pale lips. When she went inside he looked up and down the hall, and a smirk that made my skin crawl crossed his features.
There were no windows. No way I could watch what went on in there. After an hour I fell asleep, perched in the storage room across the hall from the apartment.
You took my heart.
Deceived me right from the start.
You showed me dreams.
I wished they’d turn into real…
I wish I hadn’t fallen asleep. Maybe then I could have protected her. Maybe then he wouldn’t have violated the woman I loved.
“Rosaline… I want you to know… I love you,” He’d said. He didn’t mean it. He didn’t mean anything he said to her that night.
“I love you too, Abaddon…,” She whispered, looking up at him with fond, loving eyes. He reached down, brushing a lock of her blonde hair away from her face before leaning in and giving her a soft kiss. She melted into his arms, and he pushed her down on his bed.
You broke a promise and made me realize.
It was all just a lie.
I knew what he was going to do. And I knew what he’d said to her all those months ago when he first started dating her.
“I’ll wait for you. I promise. Whenever you’re ready, I’ll be here.”
“Thank you… I.. I just don’t know if I want to give that part of myself to you, Abaddon..”
Now he was taking advantage of the feelings she had for him. Of the insecurities every feels when they’re in a relationship. His hands found their way up her shirt, slowly pushing it away and over her arms and head. She allowed this. She didn’t mind him touching her upper half.
But once the bra was gone his hands found their way down to her jeans, and she reached over to stop him.
“Abaddon… I…”
“I thought you loved me…,” He half whispered in a whimpering tone.
“I do… I just… I want to save myself…”
“If you love me as much as you say, you’d let me…”
“But…”
“Do you love me?” His fingers worked the button gently, and he caressed her chest with slow, relaxing motions.
“… Yes…” She whispered, relaxing under him and going limp. Her eyes closed as he pulled down her pants, and she ended up spending the night with him.
Sparkling angel.
Couldn’t see,
Your dark intentions,
Your feelings for me.
He was using her. When I woke up in the morning it was because Rosaline had left to go to school. Usually I’d escort her, but today I had a bone to pick with her “boyfriend”.
As he watched her board the elevator, and then descend, I stepped forward and grabbed him by the collar of his wrinkled white shirt, pushing him against the hall wall on the other side.
“You hurt her, didn’t you?” I growled, getting my face as close to him as I dared. He reeked of sex and, strangely enough, a crypt.
“I did nothing of the sort, Gabriel,” He chuckled, smiling smugly.
“What did you do to her, Abaddon?!”
“I gave her what she wanted…” His eyes seemed to flash, and somehow he slipped out of my grip and disappeared behind his door.
Fallen angel.
Tell me why?
What is the reason?
The thorn in your eye?
This time there would be no chance for him to take advantage of Rosaline. She was too pure to be with this man. Too innocent to know what he really wanted. He was a demon. I could sense it.
I did some research. It’s amazing what the internet can give you these days.
In the past year there had been missing girls popping up all over the country. All of them had blonde hair, blue eyes, fair skin. Like my Rosaline. And all of them were last seen with a man who’s description fit Abaddon’s. Each had different names, though. Iblis, Shaitan, Angra, Mara, all of these names had been reported to belong to the man last seen with the women. And with each name, who Abaddon truly was became more and more clear to me.
I knew it was time to reveal who I really was.
I see the angels,
I’ll lead them to your door.
There’s no escape now,
No mercy no more.
No remorse cause I still remember
The smile when you tore me apart.
“No..!” Abaddon had tried to made Rosaline sleep with him again. And Rosaline had refused, squirming away from him and running to the door. It locked before she could get there, and wouldn’t open.
“Don’t you love me?” He continued to ask, his face surprisingly calm. Rosaline was terrified.
“No…!” Abaddon grabbed her arm, pushing her against the wall. His eyes flashed.
You took my heart.
Deceived me right from the start.
I was standing on the street just below the apartment, nearly twelve stories up. I could hear her screams. I could feel the pain she felt. This was it. This was my chance.
This was my last moments on earth.
You showed me dreams.
I wished they’d turn into real.
His hands were on her. Ripping at her shirt, her pants. Rosaline was screaming, but no one could hear her. No one with human ears, anyway. The wind around me that night blew hard, and I doubled over, the blood in my veins seeming to boil.
You broke a promise
And made me realize.
It was all just a lie.
The wings that I’d kept within me burst from my skin, blood spraying into the air before it dissolved into fairy dust. I screamed in pain as they stretched out of my body, glowing a beautiful, pure snow white. A moment later I opened my crystal blue eyes and looked up with the fire of righteousness in my soul.
The angel Gabriel had returned.
Could have been forever.
Now we have reached the end.
Rosaline screamed again as he tore her shirt away, his hands clawed unnaturally. His eyes were no longer their gentle golden amber but now a bright, burning red as he breathed fire into her neck.
This world may have failed you.
It doesn’t give you a reason why…
The one window into his living room shattered as the wind blew into the apartment relentlessly. I flew in, my aura filling the apartment with the light of heaven as my wings folded behind my back. Abaddon looked over at me, letting out a demonic scream as I approached.
“Step away, Lucifer,” I spoke, my voice booming through the walls. He stood against me for a moment before I extended my hand and a burst of light consumed him.
You could have chosen a different path in life…
The smile when you tore me apart.
You took my heart.
Deceived me right from the start.
You showed me dreams,
I wished they’d turn into real.
You broke the promise
And made me realize.
It was all just a lie…
Rosaline slid to the floor, crying and shielding her face from the light that emanated from my wings. My face softened as I looked down at her, and I knelt beside her, holding my hand out.
“Come, child… The nightmare is over…”
She looked up at me, her cheeks stained with tears, before she reached forward and took my hand.
Could have been forever.
Now we have reached the end…
