Do You Believe

Do you believe that after your sun has set,
And after the moon is gone long enough to forget,
And after the wind has blown away
All love, all hope, til in loneliness you lay,
Do you believe that just once more
This fragile heart fate so cruelly tore
Will open, heal, and love again?

Do you believe that once the summers’ swallow’s flown,
Leaving you with bitter winter’s moan,
And clouds let rip, and deeply sow
The fields with its jagged slicing snow,
That from such barren lands as these;
Such rocky turbulent sea-sick seas,
No matter how near, nor how deadly far
The subtle startled unearthly star
That is where you have flown to lies,
The object of my listless sighs,
Is within my reach, and my lifeless clutch,
And finally, once more, can two heartbeats touch.
