Chapter Fifteen
SwiftTwilight.
Cara looked carefully at the tepee. It was old, torn and wore. There were many things that hung off of the tent where the old woman with tight braids down both sides of her head, sat mixing different herbs and what not.
Cara took a deep breath; Kip had left her not long before because he seemed to think that she should meet this magik woman by herself.
“You may approach,” the woman said.
Cara took a breath and walked forward to the older woman. She looked just as old and worn as her tent but her eyes were full of knowledge and she looked carefully at Cara.
“So what is it that you would like of me?” the woman said.
Cara frowned, “do you know who I am?”
“Yes,” she said irritably, “why wouldn’t I?”
“Oh, I just thought that you might say something, oh I dunno, spiritual,” Cara said.
SwiftTwilight cackled terribly and stood up, “come in.”
Cara followed the woman into the hut and breathed in the erotic aromas that filled the room. A fire crackled in the middle of the room and SwiftTwilight grabbed something small from the top shelf in th tepee.
“Here,” SwiftTwilight thrust the object into Cara’s hand.
She looked down and saw that it was a small leather bound book.
Opening it she realised that it was black.
“What is this?” Cara asked.
“It’s a blank book what does it look like?” SwiftTwilight said.
Cara was a little taken aback by the woman bluntness.
“What is it for?” she asked again.
“You write stories don’t you, Storier?” SwiftTwilight asked.
“Yes,” Cara replied.
“Then you are going to need that, as well as these.”
She forced ink and a pen into Cara’s hands.
“There you’re set,” SwiftTwilight said leaving the tepee and getting back to her business, Cara stood in the flap-door way.
There was a silent moment then SwiftTwilight noticed her still standing there.
“What you want?” she asked angrily.
“What am I supposed to with these,” Cara asked just as bluntly.
“Write with them,” SwiftTwilight said unhelpfully.
“I realise that, but why? I don’t know everything,” Cara said.
SwiftTwilight sighed and looked carefully at her.
“Come sit by me,” she said suddenly nicely.
Cara went and sat beside the old woman.
“You are a writer and you are a writer of this land, if you do not write about this land then this land will disappear from your world and you will never be able to get back,” SwiftTwilight said.
“So what I write will happen?” Cara asked.
“I hope so,” SwiftTwilight, “I do know you need to write, but you need to write in the master copy of the book to make it happen, so big events probably cannot be changed with that.”
“How do you mean?” Cara asked.
“Well you write in different notebooks yes? On bits of paper when ever the mood strikes you and then you rewrite in the master copy yes?”
“Yes,” Cara said.
“If you want the proper ending to the story to happen you have to write the proper ending in the master copy,” SwiftTwilight said.
“But that is at home,” Cara said confused.
“No there is one here, it was with Neareüs in Ytheron,” SwiftTwilight said.
Cara suddenly realised what the old woman was saying, Bäldassare had the master copy and that meant he could change the story, he could make himself survive her story, make himself ruler of everything.
Cara realised that she stood up, “I can’t let that happen,” she mumbled to herself.
“No you can’t,” SwiftTwilight said, “but only you can affect something like that so you must stay out of his way.”
“Stay out of his way? Meaning go back?” Cara asked, “I can’t just leave these people to a villain and monster that I’ve created!”
“You wouldn’t be,” SwiftTwilight said, “every story has a hero and a villain, you are traveling with your hero he will defeat Bäldassare, if you have your way.”
Cara nodded, “alright, how do I get myself and Kade back to our world.”
SwiftTwilight shifted in her seat, obviously not liking the thing she had to say, “you write yourself back.”
Cara stared dumbly at her.
“How am I supposed to do that?” Cara asked annoyed.
“You write that in the master book, as it was most likely there that you were written into this story,” SwiftTwilight asked.
Cara stared at her counterpart.
“That means-” she began.
“Yes you have to go to Bäldassare.”
