Colors

The colors smiled, laughing.

Sending us messages of peace.

They were defiant, it’s true,

But they did not deserve to die.

In time they would have left.

So why such brutality?

Up on the wall they stood,

Hurting no one, but inspiring a few.

The words, the art,

They were the work of dreamers,

Artists, poets, and painters,

But graffiti is what they called it.

Not art.

Not even silly, or stupid.

But graffiti.

A harsh word.

And ugly word.

For Simple Sidewalk Chalk.
