I believe the song went something like,
Soda Pop and Oranges On the Grape Vine Tree,
And the curious thought directed me to another
Not at all dissimilar, if you're on the right tangent:
Whatever happened to the little boy with vorpal blade,
Who toe to toe with lethal foe did stand?
And what of knight with blood red cross adorned,
Or poet abandoned to eternal flame?
These, after all, are the fates of great heroes,
Their tales unfinished, unrecognized, unremembered.
The ages claim the best of minds
(Which doesn't mean what you rightly think)
While the worst continue marching on,
Free of the burden of immortality.
Soda Pop and Oranges On the Grape Vine Tree;
I'm sure it's a metaphor of sorts
Because I don't know what comes next,
And that is all the pity of it.
Play on, music man! Your days are lost to us,
As is the song which touches our ears even now.
