Seasunsets

If you should choose
To sit by my side
To hear the sea
You see in me
You can watch as I cry
At another atrocious sunset
My blood turning blue
As the horizon is stained red

The artwork on the wall crumbles
As the opal that sparkles as radiantly as your
Dead eye fades like the smell of petals
Disintegrating into the wind
That blows away summer
Fading summer and fading scents

The blood berries remain poised
Resting on lips as red
And a heart as blue
And for every poison that drops
Like every tear falling from your eye
Into your lifelines of red and blue
I will watch for you

We look over torn silk dresses
And lopped off golden tresses
And remember Greek queens
Watching death come
Knowing that as another hero is born
Her children will die
Like wrenched off rose heads
Screaming in deep throated pain
As their heads are torn
But to be celebrated with a feast
So she gets there first and
Folds them to her toga
Like leaves of a tree
Like closed blooming love
Milk staining each white mouth

Hold them close to you
And hear as you sit by me
Hear my heart breaking
As I remember her face
And our laughs
And what we used to do
And what we used to say

And how we used to laugh at those
Who cared too much about life
But I do
But I care about your life
Or absence of
But I do

And I would call you back
I would chase her back through time
Follow her to her twin’s days
And believe that you could handle
What you said you couldn’t handle

And I would watch you toast to your last drink
Toast your last dance
You christened with beauty as
You twirled ‘mongst the petals
Strewn on the cemented tiles
Cemented to life like you weren’t
Then I would save you
And stop you
Catch the wineglass as it fell
From poisoned fingers
And catch your life as it slowly slipped
Slipped out of your mouth
To drown on the floor in the
Spilt wine like spilt blood
Finally being cemented
Being stained forever into the
Eternity of concrete

So I will love you
I will love her
So you can hear my heart break
Shatter inside my chest
If you dare come close enough
And I will love you
Until your head turns into stone
Resting on a pillow of grass
With flowers in a jar
That keep dying

Why don’t flowers live in graveyards?
