Team Torment 1: Provoking the Sub

A/N: Hi! This is my first ever humor piece. I don’t know where the idea came from, but here’s the result…Team Torment. This is only the first one, and it’s not the best. But I’m working on it. The Team Torment series is basically a bunch of short stories, so they’ll all be posted separately. I hope you enjoy. I had a lot of fun writing this one.

Summary: They fight for the school kids who are too scared to do it themselves. They defend their peers from the ultimate boredom: teachers. Meat Team Torment. Their mission? To torment their tormenters. Normal, full-time teachers can barely stand them, so how is a mere substitute going to hold out? The answer? He’s not.

“Hey! Brooklyn! Look what we’ve got!” I ambled through the crowd of students over to where my friends waited by the door of our Geography class. Kenzie waved me over, pointing into the room. I took a look and laughed.

“Ooh! A sub!” I grinned at my friends. “Looks like a job for Team Torment, whaddaya think?” They all nodded.

Team Torment consists of me and my friends Mackenzie, Cadence, and Keigan. We like to think of ourselves as people who save the school kids from the ultimate boredom: teachers. The teachers like to think of us as trouble makers. Whichever you prefer works, but I like to say I prefer saviors rather than troublemakers.

“Come on,” Said Keigan. “We don’t want to be late. It might annoy him.” We grinned at each other and walked into the classroom.

We put our plan into action right after the sub had taken role. “Is there anyone who I missed?” He asked. I raised my hand.

“And how do you spell your name?” The teacher asked. I grinned. Perfect!

“Y-o-u-r n-a-m-e,” I replied promptly. He started scribbling.

“Y-o-u-r…What?” He looked up at me. “Will you please stop fooling around and give me your name?”

“it’s my name though,” I said. “it wouldn’t suit you.” Keigan snickered.

“What’s your name?”

“Brooklyn…Bridge,” I said. He gave me the look. “…fine,” I said, pretending to be beaten. “Brooklyn Mckary.”

“Better. Thank you.”

“No need to thank me.”

He gave me another one of his looks. A couple other people in the class snickered, too. They were well aware that this was one of Team T’s plans and they were all quite happy to watch it unfold. I had often heard them whispering about Team T and its accomplishments, and I was pleased to ad another success to the list.

Whispering during class is always fun, so that’s what me and Cadence were doing when the sub noticed us. It’s always fun to get caught whispering, because there are a thousand things you can turn back on the teacher when he tries to get you to pipe down and shut up.

“Miss Mckary, Miss Morse, please lend me your ears—I’m trying to teach,” He said with forced calm.

“Oh, but sir,” Cadence said, her voice dripping mock apologies. “I can’t lend you my ear. See, I need it to listen to your wise teachings, oh teacher. Anyway, try calling down to the people who work the corn patch. They GROW ears—maybe they’ll let you borrow one.” Not many people got the pun, but those who did giggled. The teacher gave Cadence the evil eye, and she pretended to be cowed. I was having a hard time controlling my laughter. Keigan was making no such effort. He wasn’t very good at the jokes and puns and games we played with the teachers. He was more of a loud kind. And so…He did what he did best. He burst out in hysterical laughter, pounding his desk and roaring with mirth. Some of it was fake, of course, but some wasn’t. He’d told me once that he had but to bring up a funny memory and he’d start laughing all over again. I had to suppose that this was what he was doing now.

“Keigan, be quiet please,” Said the teacher calmly. Keigan kept right no laughing. Some of the class started to chuckle along with him, and as they watched him fall off his seat and lay there on the ground laughing, a lot more of them started too. The teacher gave a lot of them the evil eye, but Team Torment’s antics kept them laughing.

The teacher finally lost patience. “Shut it!” He roared. Immediately, Mackenzie and I shared a glance. Simultaneously, we slammed our books shut and then raced for the door. Cadence tagged along, attempting to reach it before us. Kenzie reached it first and slammed it, too.

“leave the door open!” shouted the teacher.

“But sir!” I said. “You told us to shut it…”

“Out! In the hall,” The teacher said. “I’ll deal with you later! You too, Keigan. Go!” We went. Keigan quieted down a little in the hall.

“Nice job,” I said approvingly, glancing at them. “The corn patch was a nice touch.”

“Thanks,” Said Kenzie. “D’you think we succeeded? In annoying that guy, I mean?”

“Oh yeah. Team T always succeeds,” I said. “Besides, we DID get sent out into the hall, right? We must have annoyed him at least a little.”

“Hey…he didn’t tell us exactly where to go, did he?” Asked Keigan.

“Nah, I think we’d better stay here,” I said. “We’ve annoyed him enough. We don’t want to be suspended.”

“We don’t?”

“No. We don’t. But…he didn’t specify how long we were to wait for him…We can’t miss our next class, after all…”

“Want to get there early?” Me and Kenzie nodded and we jumped up and left. Team T waits for no man. Not even a teacher…Scratch that. Especially not a teacher.

A/N: So how was it? I like constructive criticism, but I’m not begging for it. You’re choice. Anyway, the next Team T story should be up soon.
