The Mask Falls Apart

She walks alone, though never alone is she,
Hiding behind her plastic smiles and conviviality.
Inside, she crumbles like derelict, cement walls,
Feeling the ache of civil love withdrawals.

She’s empty, and the perfect emptiness fills;
She’s sick and tired, and that emptiness kills
She needs nothing to complete her self-destruction
For her nothingness is her obstruction

She laughs without the joy behind her smile,
Wondering if life could seem worthwhile.
Her pain is painless; the numbing process kills
The cleanness of life makes her stagnate, stand too still

She yearns to be free of the circus of humanity,
She wants someone to stop, and give her pity
Yet she wants independence from all of them,
She’s a dying leaf on their decaying, wilting stem

One day, she’ll wake with the sun in her eyes,
And in that light, she might realize
The masquerade ends when the mask falls apart.
Then she’ll smile as the sun warms her naked heart
And when the makeup melts off, her life will start.
