Hello Kari
(Don't Touch Me)
by: Marvin Burshik
In the shadowy world of Soliz there are a wide variety of creatures. Some are rude, some are mean, and others are selfish.
Hello Kari is one of Soliz's many residents, a small brown haired rabbit that hates being petted. She isn't your normal small rabbit though, for whenever someone gets on her nerves her fur shifts into sharp fur spikes forcing anyone that happens to be unlucky enough to be near her at the time to leap out of the way to narrowly avoid getting pierced.
Now today Hello Kari was in an grumpy mood and all she wanted today was to be left alone. Unfortunately for her though, there was this obnoxious beaver who just wouldn't leave her alone, he was called Ignorant Rena.
"Huh, huh, huh, 'ello Hello Kari. Rena see you all by yahself today. Huh, huh, Rena keep company."
Unlike most of Soliz's residents Ignorant Rena was a friendly sort, and was considered by all to be a pest. There was a reason he was called Ignorant Rena, he was lacking in the common knowledge such as Hello Kari's spiked fur and her dislike of being touched.
She released a light growl as she hopped a little farther away from the beaver, "Go away. I don't need your company."
He chewed up some of the wood pile he was dragging along with him and chirped again, "Huh, huh, huh, Hello Kari don't mean that. Rena got wood for you. Huh, huh, Rena share with you."
"Fool, I don't eat wood. I'm a rabbit not a termite. Now go and let me think!"
Again she tried hopping even further away from him, hoping he'd get the message.
Ignorant Rena pulled his cart behind him as he got even closer to Hello Kari. He put down the first piece of intricately chewed wood and grabbed another one from his pile.
"Huh, huh, huh, Hello Kari need place to thunk. Rena got some junk to fix this slunk. Huh, huh, Rena help."
He delicately chewed the several pieces of wood up and put them on the ground next to Hello Kari.
She hopped around and tried grabbing at one of the pieces, but her paws wouldn't grip on it.
"Ignorant Rena, what is all this wood going to do for me? All of it is chewed up!"
He waddled closer to her and chuckled again. Ignorant Rena then extended his paw and stretched out to touch Hello Kari.
Hello Kari's fur stood on its end and crumped together forming sharp spikes. His paw simply stood out straight between several of the spikes unharmed.
"Don't touch me!"
"Huh, huh, huh, Hello Kari not in good mood. Rena help. Huh, huh, Rena show you."
After poking her with his paw he retracted it and assembled the pieces of wood in an orderly fashion.
Hello Kari started hopping away, thinking that he had finally lost interest in her now that he, annoyingly enough, was able to touch her.
Insead after a few minutes Ignorant Rena quickly waddled over to Hello Kari and huhed.
"Go away now! If you know what's good for you Ignorant Rena, you'll leave me alone!!"
"Huh, huh, huh, Hello Kari grumpy. Rena fix that. Huh, huh, Rena make think box."
Her eyes twitched in aggravation, but she look in the direction from where he waddled from and saw a small wooden space where she would finally be left alone.
"You did that for me? Why?"
"Huh, huh, huh, Hello Kari need spot to thunk. Rena get you out of spunk. Huh, huh, Rena done now."
She hopped over to the box and sat in it for a moment. Then she noticed that there was a hole carved out for her to dig underground, perfect for when she really wanted to be left alone.
"You may be ignorant Rena, but you helped me out. Now will you leave me alone?"
He waddled away huhing and pulled his cart behind him, "Huh, huh, huh, Hello Kari pleased. Rena happy. Huh, huh, Rena go now."
When she no longer was able to see him she curled up into a ball and went to sleep.
