Working for Affection

Chappie One:

Outside the greyhound bus stop on a bench waited a young woman. Her hair was brown and shoulder length. A long diagonal bang swept across her blue eyes. She clicked her black heels together while humming her favorite j-pop song. Next to her sat an annoyed bum. All his hair had matted with his beard and his face was sullied with unimaginable contents. His stench of booze and waste almost suffocated the girl. So she forced herself to make the best of her environment. He began to groan cover his ears, then stomp his feet.

“Why are you so damn happy!?”

“Me?” the girl giggled then sighed. “It’s a long story.”

“And I have a lot of time. So tell me story. Its better then me having to hear you sing that’s for sure.”

“I can sing great!”

“Yeah, yeah get on with story!”

“I’ll have to make it short my bus is on the way. Well, I decided to keep my promise to the one I love so very much! I’ve come all the way from Tokyo just to see him again. We made a promise to be in love with one another forever. And I plan to keep my part.” She smiled. “Other then being in shambles…why are you so upset.”

“My daughter abandoned me for some boyfriend. She’s forgotten all about her old man.”

“I am sorry to here that. May I ask your name?”

“Yes it’s David.”

“Well, there’s my bus. Thanks for the small conversation.” She bowed the reached into her pocket. “I don’t know how much a twenty can get you but—“

“Thank you…um…what’s your name?”

“It’s Mimi…Kotara Mimi.”

Over excited she ran on the bus before the crowd of others could enter. She picked a seat in the middle sector of the bus. Quickly she removed her pink backpack then searched through it. Her hand wrapped around something soft and she smiled. When she pulled the item out it revealed a small stuffed dog. Her heart began to pulsate faster as the bus started.

“I’ll see him again the love of my life! Hitomi Shoji!”

Later on that day at Point restaurant and bar:

Mimi examined the man across from her. His warm brown eyes lingered on the wine in his glass. All of his ebony black hair was slicked back neatly; his face cleanly shaved. He wore a tight fitting three piece suit that made her stare harder. This was the first time she had ever seen him look so well. Her hand extended across the table to his and grasped it. In a flash he removed it shaking his head in disapproval.

“What’s wrong?”

“We…well the thing is…I can’t keep that promise—“

“What do you mean you can’t keep “that” promise!? It kept me going everyday since you left!”

“I am sorry. What can I say I’m just not interested.”

She held back tears, gripping the napkin on her lap harder. Her world began to collapse bringing her down with it. Even though he was speaking she couldn’t hear him. It was as if she’d lost all her senses.

“Here!” Shoji spoke strongly, handing the dazed girl a fold of cash. “Find some place to stay. This should be enough. Follow the direction card in between the money and I’ll get you a job at my corporate office.”

“What happened?” She said rejecting the payment. “What happened to us?”

“We grew up. Now I have to go.” Shoji sighed before laying a soft kiss on the girl’s cheek. He pushed the money into her hand then left. Mimi struggled not to cry but trying to contain it became more difficult. Suddenly she ran out the door to collect herself.

“Come on Mimi, you have keep the faith. First things first! I need to find a place to stay!”
