Far across the sea, in a distant land, our soldiers fight for an empty cause. Everyday we lose another. When will we finally say that that one will be the last? They live in a constant state of uncertainty, never knowing if they’ll open their eyes again when they go to sleep. Having to fight for a people that don’t even want them there and who try to kill them. Their comrades fall beside them everyday. They lose some of the friends they’ve made. Yet we keep them in that sandy land of graves. Soldiers die and their names won’t even be remembered. They will merely become just another dead soldier to the world. However, the families of those fallen soldiers will always keep them in their hearts. They will call them brave and say that they died fighting for our country when, in reality, they died trying to help another country when it was the people of that same country that they were trying to help that killed them. Yet we deploy more troops everyday to help fight for the empty cause and we those that have managed to survive there. When will we finally quit this empty cause and bring our troops home? After all, we are trying to fix another country’s problems while ours is having troubles of its own. When will our, “Great Nation”, finally help those who live in it? We are trying to help the world but at the same time we are ignoring our own issues and people. I believe that we will only be able to truly help others when we have finally helped ourselves.
