You told me I was not your kind.
You told me that I’m not quite fine.
I don’t belong in a diamond world;
I clash in a string of pearls.
I’m a little too spirited;
I’m not the girl you intended
To fall in love with.

But you can’t stop your heart from loving me.
Maybe it was meant to be,
Cause you can’t help loving me.

So, you bought me a dress and a beautiful golden chain,
Hoping maybe I’d come in from the rain.

You showed me off to your friends like a prize horse,
To them, though, I was still a little too coarse.
I was not dainty enough for them or you.
And I was just a little too much to chew.
And so you chose to let me go.

But you can’t stop your heart from loving me.
Maybe it was meant to be,
Cause you can’t help loving me.

Well, maybe you’re just not my kind.
Turns out, losing you I won’t really mind.
You wouldn’t fit in my world;

You don’t have the guts to soar.
I’ll do fine without you.
So far, haven’t I made it through?
You can’t make me take you back.
