I Want to Be

I want to be
in a sun-dappled field,
where everything is
open and everything is clear,
where the green grass tickles
my feet and waves softly
in the breeze, where each
prick of grass into my skin is like
the field speaking to me through
the bottoms of my feet,
sending beams of grace up
through my body, warming me,
lifting me, until light springs
from my eyes and ears and fingers,
and I must run for pure joy and beauty.
Where music plays continuously
through my head, although there
is no music playing, where I can
dance on top of the sun, although
I cannot reach it,
where I can roll through the soft grass
and marvel at life and simplicity and
how each leaf on each tree has
its own unique personality,
and speaks to me
in ripples through the air.
