Disclaimer: I do not own any songs, but I do own all the characters and storyline.
Summary: At Caldum Hill University, Nathaniel Spade ruled and everyone knew it, mainly because his father was the head of Caldum. So if Nathaniel told every guy in school not to look at you because he secretly liked you than they wouldn't dare to even glance at you. Unfortunately, Avery White finds herself in that particular predicament.
Caldum Hill

“I could be mean
I could be angry
You know I could be just like you
I could be fake
I could be stupid
You know I could be just like you
You thought you were standing beside me
You were only in my way
You’re wrong if you think that I’ll be just like you,"
- Three Days Grace
Chapter Three
Halloween rose upon Caldum.
Caldum’s Annual Halloween dance was right around the corner, and Caldum students were busy getting ready for the upcoming event. The sports centre was decorated in black and orange decorations.
Ave, Kal, and Gin were at a local party store trying on various costumes. Some of the outfits were thrilling and amusing while others were just ridiculous. Kali was busy picking out the costumes for the dance as Avery and Ginger were talking.
“What about this one?” Kali asked grabbing three beer girl outfits.
The outfits featured a multi-colored, green, white, yellow and red, corseted dress, lace up front, a short yellow and white lace ruffled skirt, an apron, white thigh-high stockings, a garter, and high heeled shoes.
"No!"
“This one?” Kali asked as she pulled out three nurse costumes.
The costumes consist of a white and red dress (like thing) that went down to about mid thigh with a slit that came up to the hip. It was a breast popping dress. It came with a stethoscope, a cap, white high-thigh fishnets stocking, and red heels.
“Hell no!”
“I got them this time!” Kali exclaimed as she pulled out three French maid costumes.
The maid outfits were slutty, no less. The outfit had a black corset, lightly boned with lace ruffles, a short black lace ruffled skirt, high-thigh fishnets with a black bow, a feather duster, and black high heel shoes.
“That is completely ridiculous!” Avery said, looking at the outfits, which resembled nothing more than cloth.
“Oh, Ave learn to a little fun,” Kali said grabbing two garters and throw them at Ginger and Avery.
“Kali, I know what fun it, but prancing around in cloth at the Halloween dance is not fun. I’m not looking to get laid!” Ginger nodded her head to agree to Avery.
“They are a bit slutty,” Ginger agreed.
“We are wearing them and that’s that! You didn’t like first ones so you will wear these one.”
Avery was about to argue, but instead shut her mouth and remembered the day when Kali trashed the apartment and she didn’t want a replay of that at the party store.
Ginger noticed that the two friends held a simpler stubbornness. When Avery help her, she told Ginger that she would take the dress and accept it no if ands or buts and here at the party store Kali showed the same attitude about them wearing the costumes. It was an interesting relationship- the two of them.
Kali had won.
‘Well at least for now,” Avery thought as she held the bag and shuddered at the outfit. She wanted to go the Halloween dance, but not looking like a slut.
The girls gathered their belongings and headed back to their apartment. The store was only three blocks away from Avery and Kali’s apartment and they decided to walk there. A little exercise never hurt anyone.
Chatter fell amongst the friend as they walked. They stopped at a few stores on their way home and bought a few more things that they really didn’t need. They also bought Ginger a few new things even though she said she could not accept them, but Kali and Avery forced her to take the gifts.
As Avery mingled with Ginger and Kali, she thought of her past and how there use to be three of them before Gabby and Gracie came along. Her name was Brandie. She was the innocent and shy one of the group, while Avery was composed and the thinker and Kali was the wild and short-tempered one. They were childhood friends up until their freshman and after that nothing seemed right to Avery.
She meet Gabby and Grace her junior year while Kali meet them her sophomore year. She only knew them for a year, but she became close with them and it seemed to ease to pain in her heart when she thought about Brandie and what could have been.
“Ave, Ave, Avery!” Kali yelled snapping Avery out of her current thoughts about her past.
“You wanted something?” Avery asked her voice dripping with sarcasm.
Kali rolled her eyes, “Ginger and I were saying that it would be a good idea for all of us to meet somewhere before the dance to like get ready and stuff, but you completely zoned out on us.”
“I was not zoning out. I was just in deep thought," Ave said defending herself.
Kali snorted at Avery’s reply and rolled her eyes again, “Un huh.”
“I’m not going to argue with you it never ends well.”
Ginger laughed lightly as she watched Avery; who was once again in deep thought. ‘The girl seemed to be in deep though a lot,’ Ginger thought.
The girls reached Kali’s and Avery’s apartment at around six thirty and decided it was a perfect night for a real girls night with pizza and movies. They ordered pizza and popped "Just my Luck" into the DVD player.
Let the night begin!

A couple weeks pasted since the girls got their costumes for the Halloween dance. Caldum was growing restless with excitement while the grounds and classrooms were filled with chatter about who would win prince and princess and everyone’s outfits.
“Avery, we’re going to grab at bite to eat at that new restaurant come on,” Alexis called. She grabbed Avery and drug her to everyone else.
“Thanks for giving me a choice,” Avery muttered.
They arrived at a small Mexican restaurant not far away from university. Avery found herself in a black BMW with Nathaniel, Seth and Adrian. Wondering how the hell she got with them. She guessed that Alexis, Kali, and Ginger were in either the white Range Rover or blue Porsche.
The Mexican restaurant was filled with Spanish talking people and rowdy college were bright painting and objects everywere. Avery again found herself wishing that she had taken Spanish and not French.
“Hola!” A middle aged woman greeted.
“Hola,” the group replied.
“Venido, venido,” the woman said leading them to some tables.
Everyone grabbed a seat at the table. Nate sat beside Avery who sat beside Kali who sat beside Alexander who sat beside Alexis who sat beside Ginger who sat beside Adrian who sat beside Seth next to Nate.
“Can I get you all some drinks to start with?” the woman asked with a heavy Spanish accent.
“A water please,” Avery said.
“Same for me,” Ginger said.
“Oh and me,” Kal responded
“I’ll have a coke,” Nathaniel said.
“I’ll take a coke too,” Adrian answered.
“Me too,” Alex said.
“A sprit please,” Seth replied.
The middle aged woman quickly scribbled down the drink orders, mumbled a few words in Spanish, and then went off to get their drinks.
“I think that went well,” Seth joked.
“Very well, remind me to leave a large tip,” Nate said laughing.
The rest of the lunch went rather smoothly. The group shared a taco salad appetizer and each ate and shared their own meals. The lunch was full of conversation and laughter. The group finished their lunch and headed back to Caldum.
The group dropped off Avery, Kali and, Ginger at their apartment. The girls chatted and gossiped until around four o’ clock. Avery and Ginger both had later afternoon classes everyday.
Avery headed to her final class of the day after being dropped off. Her last class was in the Artemis building and it was creative writing. Ginger also had a class, but it was in the Poseidon building, which was behind the lake away from Avery.
Creative writing was an hour long class that Avery had every Wednesday at five o’clock. Miss. G taught this class as well as most of Averys’ other classes. The class was pretty boring to most part. Miss. G mainly discussed the criteria of writing stories and how they vary from other writing.
“The assignment is to write a short story due next Wednesday,” Miss. G said as she dismissed the class.
Gathering up her items, Avery slipped her unneeded material in the closet and locked in up. She took the item she needed and headed out the door and away from the school for the night.
The clouds above Avery darkened and the roaring of thunder filled the campus. Avery quickened her pace across the grounds and wished that she would have driven. The rain began to drizzle lightly onto Avery.
‘Why God?’ Avery thought as she looked up into the sky.
The once light rain became harder and harder by the seconds. Lightening lit up the dark sky and thunder could be heard from everywhere. Again Avery found herself asking God why.
Avery ran her fingers through her drenched hair and sighed. Her honey-blonde-hair was now turning curly, which Ave hated about her hair. Today was really not her day, not at all. Dragging herself along in the rain, Avery muttered curse words under her breath.
“You know talking to yourself is the first sign of insanity,” a deep voice said from a car beside her.
Looking up at the speaker, Avery laughed lightly. “Yeah, I think I already hit that block.”
The guy laughed and shook his head. “Come on, before you catch a cold.”
She stiffened as she looked at the random guy. “Ah, I’ll be fine.” Avery didn’t know the random guy therefore she was going nowhere with him even if she could feel the heat from his car. She shivered.
“You know Nathaniel would be really pissed out if he found you talking to me, but I think he would be even angrier if he knew I left you out in the freezing rain.”
“So you know Nathaniel, but do I know you?”
“Oh that really hurts,” the guys said holding his heart, “Grant Summons, we were Chemistry partners in high school, we are both in Miss. G journalism classes we did that article together. Ring any bells?”
“Oh my god,” Avery gasped. “I’m didn’t recognize you, I’m sorry.”
Grant laughed and ran his fingers through his dark brown hair. “It’s fine. Now get into the car.”
Avery nodded and got into the black Mercedes. Her soaked clothes drenched the leather seats. Ave took of her soggy heather grey cashmere Henley tunic to reveal a damp long black tank.
“I’m sorry about your car.”
“It’s fine. It's only a car,” Grant said as he pulled of his own black polo to give to Avery leaving himself in his own white Henley long sleeve shirt, which showed off his muscles very well.
“Thank you,” Avery said as she put on the black polo and rubbed her arms up and down trying to get rid of the Goosebumps.
Avery took that moment to look over Grant. He was what one would call tall, dark, and handsome. He had brown shaggy hair, which always gave him that just got out of bed look. He had the prettiest deep cobalt eyes that Avery had ever seen. He had broad shoulder, a well-defined body, strong jaw line, and pearly white teeth. He also looked tall even though he was sitting in a car. And he had a few piercing, one in his lip, and a few tattoos as well. He was what one would also call “a rebel.”
“Like what you see?” Grant asked with a smirk across his
Avery blushed lightly before reply, “Hmm…not bad.”
Grant let his head fall back as he laughed. “Not bad? Geez, I was hoping for a little more than that, Avery.”
She noticed that he had a very-should she dare say it- deep and sexy laugh. It made a shiver run down her spine. “Sorry, but you’re going to have to deal with not bad.”
“I guess I will then,” Grant said with a small pout that made Avery laugh.
Grant dropped Avery off at her apartment and she thanked him very much. She told him she would wash his shirt and give it to him in their journalism class. He laughed and told her not to worry about it.
Those memorizing olive eyes shared at the couple as anger rose up in them. Now dare anyone go against his ruling? His rulings were law and you did not disobey them. He needed Avery for more than just the simple reasons without her he would be out of his spot as heir.
