Chapter Four
Whether the Weather
"So... how's the weather?" I asked trying to come up with something to say because he didn't say anything after we were sitting here.
"You know Kirsten, you look exactly like your mother." Tate said. I flinched at the mention of my mother. I still hadn't gotten over her death, it was so sharp in my memory that I didn't want to bring it up. My mind spun and landed on the moment I met him first.
"Were you following me yesterday?" Tate nodded, not going to deny it, it sent shivers up and down my spine and the word stalker came to mind. "Why?" Tate smiled, but shrugged his shoulders.
"I expected something to happen." He said.
"You pl-" Click and slam. The door opened behind me. The breeze stirred up the warm atmosphere I didn't even notice while I had been sitting there. I wrapped my arms around myself to keep in the heat that was quickly pouring away from my body.
"What is going on? Crimson is getting mor-" The person who was speaking paused and a face floated into view. It was a woman with long brown hair and- Black eyes. I stared at her as she stared at me and she pushed her small red lips together. She looked like she was about to explode from anger. "What is this?" She asked, seemingly without releasing tension in her lips.
"A person, or are you blind?" Tate mocked her. She glared at him sharply. They stared at eachother silently for a long time before she released her taunt face.
"Ah, I see." She said as if his words before had explained it all or as if she could read somethign in his face that I couldn't. "Show up at the meeting unless you want Crimson to be in a worse mood than he is in." The woman left and I stared after her.
"Don't pay attention to her, look at me." Tate said and as if I couldn't help but do it I turned towards him.
"Who was that, and who is Crimson." Tate shook his head.
"Don't you worry about that, you'll find out one day I'm sure, but right now let's concentrate on you. Your father, he left something for you and your brother should I come across you at any point." He reached into his desk and pulled out something. It was in a black box. I stared at it and started to open it, but he reached over the desk to stop me. "Later, with your brother." He said. "You can go now." I stood up and walked towards the door. I remembered to turn and nodded.
"Thanks...I guess." I said before walking out of the door. I needed to find my brother to open this ... thing, hopefully it's not poison, the way he reacted I bet it is.
