Better Than Me.

Chapter 2: Glamorous

Just wanted to say that this is NOT a story about falling in love with your older brother’s best friend, although the guy she falls in love with is a semi-friend--if that makes sense.

I woke up the next morning to see the sun peeping through the cracks of the drapes. I slowly sat up and rubbed my eyes. I glanced over at the clock on my nightstand to see that it was 10. I slowly crawled out of bed and walked over to my closet. I grabbed a pair of light blue jeans, a pink tank top, underwear and a bra. I slipped into my bathroom and started the water for a shower. I put some music on and climbed into the shower. When I was done getting changed and doing my make-up, I went downstairs.

Evan was sitting at the counter, eating a bowl of cereal. His curly dark brown hair was wet and his hazel eyes looked bored. Ava was sitting next to him, staring into space. Her black hair was braided and she also looked bored.

“Bored much?” I asked them as I walked into the room.

“What do you think?” Ava mumbled.

“Just asking,” I said and rolled my eyes. “Have you seen Bitsy--er, Missy I mean?”

“Nope. She probably isn’t even up yet,” Evan said.

“Great, I don’t want to spend all fucking day at the mall ‘bonding’,” I told them.

Evan’s eyes got wide and he mouthed ‘shut up’ to me. Just then, Missy walked into the room. Her blond hair was in a high pony tail and she was wearing a pink skirt, white tank-top, pink jacket and pink high-heels.

Oh. My. God.

“Hi guys,” she said. It seemed like she didn’t hear anything we said. “Are you ready to go?”

“Yeah, let me go grab my purse,” I said and walked away. Once I was halfway up the stairs Evan ran up to me. “Yes?”

“Did someone call last night?” he asked.

“I don’t think so,” I said slowly. Then that asshole voice came back to me, “yes, someone called.”

“Who was it?”

“Some asshole named Shane,” I said, glaring at him. “Why?”

“Because I thought I heard the phone ring last night.”

“Right, I think I said that you would call him back in the morning--or did I tell him to call back? Hmm, don’t remember. All I know is that I hung up on him.”

“Why did you hang up on him?”

“Because he was getting on my nerves and he was an asshole. Duh,” I said, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.

“I’ll have to call him I guess,” he said cracking his knuckles.

“Right-o. Have fun doing that,” I said. I grabbed my purse and skipped down the stairs.

“Have fun,” Evan said sarcastically before he disappeared inside his room.

“Oh, I will,” I said laughing.

“What about this one?” Missy asked us.

We were currently sitting in a boutique called Glamorous.

Great name, huh?

Missy was currently trying on dresses while Ava and I sat on the floor waiting for her to hurry up. So far she had come out in clingy, revealing short dresses.

I thought this was a ‘fancy party’, meaning that you had to be wearing long elegant dresses. Not dresses that belonged at clubs and high school parties.

“Uh, Missy?” Ava called.

“Yes sweetie?” she asked in response. By the way, she has taken to calling us sweetie.

“Eva and I are gonna go look at dresses,” Ava said as we slowly rose to our feet.

“Go ahead, we may be here a while,” she said and with those words we were gone.

“Great. Normally I like shopping, but this is ridiculous,” I said to Ava as we scanned the racks.

“Uh-huh,” Ava mumbled while picking out a black dress.

Twenty minutes later we were trying on dresses. I was currently slipping on a blue dress. When I was finally done putting it on, I stepped out of the room.

“Are you done Ava?” I asked.

“Just a minute,” she called.

Ava walked out of the dressing room in a silky black dress. The dress had thin straps and showed a little bit of cleavage. Rhinestones went across her chest in a diagonal pattern. The front of the dress fell above her knees, while the back of it was longer.

“You should get that one,” I said with a smile.

“Do you think so?” she said biting her lip. She twirled around watching the silk material fly around her. “I’ll get it.”

“Good. What do you think about my dress?”

“Nah, try a white one. It’ll look good against your tan skin and black hair,” she said and went back inside the dressing room to change. I sighed and went back into the room.

I took off the blue dress and tried on a white halter-dress. I stepped out of the dressing room and turned to Ava.

“Well?” I asked, biting my lip. I was a bit nervous about the dress. It was a halter-dress; it showed too much cleavage and was a bit too tight. Plus there was the fact about its back.

Did I mention it was backless too?

Yeah, didn’t think so.

“You look great!” Ava exclaimed.

“You don’t think its too…revealing?” I asked nervously.

“No, well it kind of is. I mean, it fits you like a glove, it shows off your curves, plus there is no back.”

“Should I get it or not?” I asked in an irritated voice.

“Yes,” she replied with a smile. Her smile slowly turned into a frown.

“Oh. My. God!” someone squealed behind me. I slowly turned around and saw Missy staring at me.

Oh, great.

“Eva you have to get that one!” she exclaimed.

“I don’t know. It’s a bit…revealing.”

“Oh nonsense. You look great! You’ll have the boys eating out of the palms of your hands,” she said, nodding excitedly.

“I guess I’ll get it then,” I said and went back to change.

“Evan’s going to blow a gasket when he sees you,” Ava mumbled to me.

Just what I need.

We finally pulled up to the house at 5. After Missy paid for our dresses and the shoes we found there, she took us to the mall. While we were there she insisted that we go to Victoria Secret. I’m now the proud owner of skimpy night clothes, bras and underwear.

Yes, I know.

How in the hell did I end up with them, you ask yourselves.

Well, we were having such a great time--not--that I couldn’t break Missy’s heart. So I plastered a fake smile on my face and allowed her to buy them for me.

After that, we got our nails done. Ava and I got French manicures, while Missy got a bright red color, “to match her dress”, she told us. When our nails were done we had to get unwanted hairs removed, so we excited the store red-faced and puffy.

That was a beautiful sight.

With our nails done and outfits picked out, we were finally able to eat. She took us to an over-priced restaurant, where we all got salads. And after that we were free.

Now, I was currently in my bathroom, sitting on the counter doing Ava’s hair. I pulled her black hair up into a high ponytail, twisted it around and curled it. Her hair style was basically a crown of curls pilled on the top of her hair--I guess that’s what you could say.

“All done,” I said and spun her around so she could see herself. “What do you think?”

She stared at herself for a minute before she said anything. “I...love it. Thanks!”

“Your welcome. Do you need me to do your make-up?”

“Nah, I can do it myself. You should get ready,” she said and skipped out the door.

I hopped off the counter and plugged the curling iron in. I put Senses Fail on and began curling my hair.

That’s something that must people don’t know about me. I don’t listen to that generic pop crap or degrading rap. I listened to punk, alternative and even emo music. Most people are shocked when they hear what I listen to. I really don’t blame them. With the way I dress--a bit girly, sometimes even preppy--and the way I act. But you have to think of my personality too. I’m sarcastic, but loving at the same time, and you really don’t want to end up on my bad side.

After my hair was curled, I slipped on my dress and shoes. I looked in the mirror and made sure I didn’t look like an idiot. Once I was done with that, I applied some make-up. I walked out of my bathroom and into my room. I picked up a small purse and filled it with my i-pod, make-up and my cell phone. I quickly grabbed a jacket and walked out. As I walked past Evan’s room, the door opened.

Ah, the moment I’ve been waiting for--not.

“Hey Evan,” I said and stopped walking. I slowly turned to face him.

Bad move.

Evan looked extremely pissed off, which was never a good thing. “Eva Anita Brust, what the hell are you wearing?”

Oh, shit. He was definitely pissed. And of course my big mouth had to say something sarcastic.

“A dress. Duh.” Sarcasm wasn’t a good idea at the moment.

“I fucking know that. Go change. NOW!” he hissed.

I was about to say something else, but at that moment my father decided to show up.

“Hey dad,” I said slowly.

“Hi,” he said slowly, looking me up and down, “nice dress.”

“WHAT!?” Evan exclaimed. “Are you fucking serious?”

“Language,” my dad murmured before staring at my brother. “What’s the problem?”

“What’s the problem? WHAT’S THE PROBLEM!? Are you fucking blind,” my brother said glaring at me.

“You sister looks fine Evan,” he said with a sigh. “Would you stop overreacting?”

“I’m supposed to overreact. It’s my fucking job,” he said glaring at my dad now. “Have you seen the back? Or should I say lack of it?”

“Turn around,” my father said, sighing again. I raised an eyebrow. “Humor me.”

I turned around, so my dad could see.

“See? There is no way in hell that she’s going out like that,” my brother said.

“Evan, its fine. She looks great.” He said to my brother and turned to me, “sweetie, go downstairs and wait for us. I have to talk with Evan.”

I nodded and quickly walked away. I walked into the living room where Ava and Missy were sitting down.

“You look good,” Ava said to me.

“Thanks,” I replied back.

“Girls would you both stand up for a moment, please,” Missy said standing up. Ava and I both stood up. “Now I want to take a picture of you two. You both look so good. And I think your mother would like to see it.”

Are we going to prom or something?

Ava and I were forced to take 3 pictures before my brother and dad came down. Evan looked extremely pissed and refused to look at anyone.

“Oh, Bryan! You have to take a picture of me and the girls!” Missy exclaimed as soon as she saw my dad.

She quickly walked over to him and gave him her digital camera. Then she walked over to Ava and me. She squeezed her way in-between us and smiled. My dad took the picture and gave the camera to Missy. She looked at the picture and squealed.

“You two look absolutely beautiful! Your mother has to see this,” she said and showed us the picture.

Oh yes, I’m sure my mother would love to see a picture of her two daughters with her ex-husband’s current fling.

“Can we go now?” Evan asked.

Half an hour later, we found ourselves exiting the car. Evan somehow overcame his anger, and was now talking to me. Being the gentleman he is--not--he escorted Ava and me into the hotel where my dad’s law firm was having its party.

What the hell was the point of this party anyways? It wasn’t Christmas, summer was over and school had started 2 weeks ago. I’ll find out eventually.

With Ava attached to Evan’s left arm and me on his left, he led us into the huge ass ballroom. I gawked at the size of the room, the amount of perfume and people.

“Who in the hell is everyone? Did everyone decide to bring their entire family?” I asked.

“No. The last one--before the summer--was a lot bigger than this,” Evan said grinning at me.

“Please tell me there people under the age of 20 here,” I begged, eyeing a group of old ladies, dressed in couture eyeing us and gossiping.

“’Course there are. Although there are bunch of oldies here.”

“Ugh, I can tell. Shouldn’t they be doing old people things? Like sleeping or knitting or something?” I asked.

Ava glanced at me sharply, “Watch what you say. They could here you.”

“Good.”

Our father glanced at us and laughed, “Come on. You two need to meet some people.”

My brother decided that he didn’t need to see any of these people so he slowly inched away from us. “Where do you think you’re going?”

My brother mumbled some profanities and smiled at my dad, “I wasn’t going anywhere,” he said innocently.

“Yeah right. Come on kiddies,” my dad said laughing.

What were we, 5?

My dad towed us around for an hour. We met all kinds of interesting people. Not. It was extremely boring. I met his bosses, some of his friend and a bunch of old people. All of them took pleasure in talking about how beautiful Ava and I were. Some even pinched our cheeks.

But the overall message was: I’m sooo not surprised that Bryan has extremely attractive children, just look at him and his ex-wife

“Please tell me that I don’t have to meet anymore people,” I begged my dad.

“You guys can go,” he whispered. We quietly excused ourselves and got the hell out of there. I said a hallelujah in my head.

“Now what?” Ava asked.

“Come on, I’ll show you two what usually happens at these things,” he said and grabbed our hands. He dragged us over to a corner where 6 teenagers sat.

Apparently they heard us coming because they looked over in our direction. As we drew closer they started whispering. Ugh, more gossip. Didn’t people have better things to do?

As soon as we got to the table everyone stared at us--well, they stared at me the most. It was a good thing that I didn’t blush easily.

“’Sup bitches,” my brother said and sat down. Ava quickly sat down while I raised an eyebrow.

They were still fucking staring! Really, I wasn’t that special.

“This is my sister Ava,” he said and nodded at her, “and this is my other sister Eva.”

Ava mumbled a timid ‘hi’, while I simply smiled and sat down. “Well who in the hell is everybody, Evan?”

“Right. This is Delilah-“ he said and pointed at a small blond. She had blue eyes, her blond hair fell to her shoulders and she was tan. “-this is Nathan-“ he said and pointed at a tall boy sitting next to Delilah. He had curly brown hair, brown eyes and an easy smile. “-that’s Samantha, but we call her Sam-“ he said, gesturing at the girl sitting next to Nathan. She had strawberry-blond hair that fell in curls to her shoulders, blue eyes and appeared to be short. “-and this is Shane-“ he said as I immediately glanced at the asshole that I talked to last night. Ugh, he was hot. He had black hair that was over-grown, striking blue eyes and--unfortunately--the chiseled good looks of a god.

Why was life so unfair?

“-and you two already know Jared and Casey.” My brother finished. I quickly glanced up and smiled.

“Jared!” I squealed and jumped out of my chair. I ran around the table to Jared. He quickly got up and enveloped me into a big bear hug. He twirled me around and placed my on the ground. I quickly gave him a kiss on the cheek, while he placed one on mine to.

“Christ you’ve grown up!” he exclaimed.

“Looks the same to me,” a snide voice remarked. We both turned to face Casey or Ms. Bitch-Face as I like to call her. I glared at her and turned back to Jared.

“I just saw you during Spring Break, silly!” I said while giving Casey the finger.

Delilah burst out laughing. Everyone turned to look at her. “I’m sorry but Casey--” she said and stated laughing again. “Oh, god. You should have seen her face when Eva gave her--” she started laughing again. In fact, she was laughing so hard that her face turned red and tears started falling down.

After that we pretty much made small talk. I mainly talked to Delilah, she was pretty cool. Every time I looked at Shane I saw him looking at me. I learned that Shane, Delilah and Samantha were juniors while the others were seniors. I danced a lot--when they weren’t playing old music.

Half way through the party Shane decided that he needed to talk to me. You know he actually was kind of cool--not nearly as annoying as he was on the phone.

By the time 9:00 came around everyone was dancing. Well, everyone except for me and Shane. I was sitting down quietly zoning out and ignoring everyone, so when Shane said something to me I didn’t hear what he said.

“What was that?” I asked.

“I said would you like to dance?” he said grinning at me.

“Ah…sure,” I said and stood up. He led me to the dance floor where an up-beat song was playing. We danced for a while until the music was shut off.

“I wonder what their doing,” Shane said.

“Let’s go find Evan and the others,” I said, quickly walking over to my brother as my father’s voice came on.

“Can I have your attention,” he called out. He waited until all eyes were on him before he continued. “Missy can you come up here?” he asked.

Oh, no.

I quickly glanced at Evan and saw him tense up. Missy hurried up the steps to my father. She stood before him and then he got down on one knee.

“Is he doing what I think he’s doing?” I asked Evan.

I must have zoned out or something because the next thing I know Missy is crying and jumping up and down.

“Yes, of course I’ll marry you!” she exclaimed as my father slid a ring on her finger. The room was filled with the sounds of clapping as my father and Missy made out in front of everyone.

Thanks for the reviews!! And thank you to anyone who read! I was going to reply but I kind of forgot, so sorry about that. Sorry for the delay everyone. I originally planned to have this out last week, but I got busy. This chapter was longer, than the last one. I planned to have it like 3 pages longer, but I cut some stuff out. The chapter wasn’t edited well, so I apologize for that. Next update should be soon, but I have to work on the other story and my fanfics. It felt a bit rushed in some places, so I'm sorry about that.

Next chapter is her first day of school, so be ready for that.

I was also wondering, would someone like to be my beta/editor? I was just realizing that I’m going to need help with a few things in the future. I would ask my cousin for help, but she doesn’t like this story, so yeah. If you are interested let me know!

Thanks for reading and please review!
