The Red Girl

She looks through the barred window
At the dim street light.
From her cold prison cell,
She sees the world - black and white.

She recalls the false smiles,
The colorless places,
The molded personas,
Cookie-cutter faces.

She could die in this cell
And resign all her might,
Because she can vow
That she put up a fight.

The people didn't listen.
The plugged up their ears.
They refused to stand up
To their demons and fears.

She was the one
Who fought for her rights
And became the first red
In a world black and white.

Now she clings to a picture
In her lonely cell.
Although it's no Heaven,
It's quite far from Hell.

The streetlight flickers,
Her mind re-awakes.
She turns her eyes away
From the colorless fakes.

She looks down at the picture.
He's smiling at her.
A beautiful red
That turns the rest to a blur.

She'll remember his face
With the last breath she takes
When the morning light comes
And she's tied to the stake.

It's almost sunrise
And she looks through the bars
Knowing her death is near
But the end is still far.

She knows in her heart
It was worth fighting for,
And if given the chance,
She'd do it a thousand times more.

She'd scream at the fakes,
She'd yell to the light,
She'd say her three words
To the world black and white.

And from her grave
She still will stand tough.
She'll scream to them all
LOVE IS ENOUGH!

All with the smile
No one can replace.
She made an impact
No one can erase.
