A Wisp of Nature
I stand still, listening.
Listening to the water dance,
Listening to the wind sing.
Listening to the trees' stories,
I stand still, listening.
A flutter below.
A shimmer above.
She’s back!
I run fast, watching.
The wind catches up.
The trees smile.
The water stands still.
I stand still, listening.
A flutter again!
The tiniest shimmer.
She appears.
I reach out,
To touch her wings
Enfolding her in my hands,
She shivers slightly, wondering.
I peek inside.
And there she is.
A wisp of nature.
Long brown wings,
A spot of pink here,
A touch of blue there.
Beautiful long tail,
Elegant round face.
I open my hands,
And as it flies away,
I whisper:
Goodbye, butterfly.
