The Eagle’s New Apprentice

A golden eagle flies high, higher, highest.
He circles over mountains, and reaches towards the clouds.
How beautiful he is! A flower whispers to another.
A silver pigeon hops about, hoping to get a better look,
Tittering away to its bored neighbor.
The eagle sees the silver glint, and flies closer to see.
The pigeon, frightened, leaves its resting place,
Trying to fly faster.
The eagle swoops down, ready to catch it.
The pigeon, restless, squeaks with terror
As the eagle grabs it tightly in its claw.
She looks back at her neighbor, and sees her
Jumping from foot to foot, speechless.
The eagle lets his head get closer and closer to his claw.
The pigeon screeches louder, afraid of the end.
A cloud enfolds them.
The neighbor cries with excitement, wondering what has happened.
The cloud leaves, disappointed.
And on the eagle’s back sits the pigeon,
A smile on her face, flapping her silver wings.
The eagle looks toward her and smiles, his wings flapping smoothly
Towards the valley.
He has found a new apprentice.
