Twice as Kind

The cruelty of man makes faith an impossible feat.

Especially when it is in him you are asking it be placed.

But one glance from your sweet innocent eyes,

One laugh, escaping from those lips, so delicate, so sweet

And I’m back in those childhood teachings.

All things good and pure and wonderful, do exist.

Just looking at you proves this.

Your gentle graces, alongside your unmistakable flaws.

Your careless discarding of the opinions of all

When one drop of recognition falls on me, faith is restored.

But sense, oh, he is a persistent friend.

Reminding me that faith would reject

The very love that rekindles him.

So, I shall hide them both deep inside,

Treasure those glances in secrecy.

But, I will accept the second prize,

For friendship can often be twice as kind.
