Ok, this is cliché but who doesn’t love a good cliché?

Jaide (main character) enters an all boys boarding school, the admin knows who she is, she has an influential family and is allowed in under the circumstances that she is given no special treatment and is on probation. Her room mate doesn’t like her or really anyone for that matter, but his friends love her right off the bat. She wants to play soccer for the school team. All the boys like Jaide, but which one, if any will get her? Some people pasts come into play and a couple secrets could draw two of them closer then they ever thought. (will get deeper in future chapters and rating might go up.)

Enjoy!

Jaide followed the ascending numbers down the hall, 85...87...89...91, bingo. She stopped in front of the door, this was her room, she tried the handle. It was locked, her roommate must not be here yet, she used her key card to unlock the door, it swung open. She jumped at the sight of the boy sitting on one of the two twin beds, she hadn't expected any one to be there. The boy obviously hadn't been expecting her either, he leapt off the bed that he had been slouching on, listening to music.

"Who the hell are you?!"

She stepped forward and held out her hand, "Hi! I'm Jaide."

He looked at her hand like it was going to bite him.

She withdrew it, "You must be..." she pulled out the paper that had her room mates name on it, "Ablaiza, right?"

"What are you doing in my room?"

She looked at him stupidly, "I'm your roommate, didn't you read the letter they sent you?"

"You're a girl."

"Yes I am."

He still looked dumbfounded, "This is an all boys boarding school."

"Yes, I’m aware of that, it is a very prestigious one also. Ablaiza, right?”

“It’s BLAIZE and if you are a girl you can’t go to an all boys boarding school.”

“Well I applied and I was accepted, they know I am a girl.”

He frowned, “That’s…stupid. You should at least have your own room, they can’t board a boy and a girl together.”

“I am allowed here under the condition that I expect nor receive any special treatment whatsoever, that includes my living arrangements.”

He muttered something under his breath.

Jaide decided to give him some time to absorb, her things had already been delivered to the room, she started unpacking, she emptied her suitcases into her dresser, chest and closet.

He just stared for a while, obviously pissed that he got roomed with the girl, finally he gave up trying to make her disappear by will power and slouched back down on his bed, “Fuck” he muttered and turned his MP3 player back on.

Every time she glanced over at him he gave her a murderous glare, she couldn’t believe he was MAD at being roomed with a girl. When she finished unpacking she examined her schedule, he was stretched on his bed still listening to music. “Hey Blaize….BLAIZE” she said louder to get his attention.

“What?!” He pulled his ear phones out.

“What’s your schedule look like?”

He just frowned at her, “Its black and white, just like yours.” With that said he put his ear phones back in and turned his volume up.

She rolled her eyes, she spotted his schedule on his bedside table. She snatched it up.

“Hey!” he sat up and turned his music off.

“I just wanna compare schedules.”

“Leave my stuff alone.”

“But we have all the same classes.”

He snatched the paper back, “I don’t care. Leave my stuff alone.”

She was taken aback; he REALLY wasn’t very friendly, “Alright, I’m sorry, jeez.” She sat for a moment while he put away his music and started organizing his school stuff. “So, how come you don’t like being called by your full name: Ablai”

“Because, I don’t like it, Ok? Ok.”

She shrugged, “I think it’s cool, unique.” She remained quiet a little longer but the silence was killing her. “You’re not real talkative.”

“You noticed?”

“You know, I’m really good at making people talk, so you might as well start now.”

“How about you leave me alone?” he continued organizing his things.

“I can’t stand silence.”

“Jesus! HERE!” he tossed her his MP3 player, “Listen to that then, and be quiet.”

She grinned, “Ok!” She turned it on, it was on AudioSlave, she loved that band, she listened to it for a while then tried some other, more upbeat bands. After about an hour of listening to music and watching him unpack she turned off his music and set it on his desk. “I like your music.”

He grunted.

“You’re into rock then I take it?”

He shrugged.

Then a voice came over the intercom, “All students please report to the auditorium for the welcoming ceremony.”

She smiled at the opportunity to get out of the room and leapt up, “Let’s go!”

He lounged on his bed, “Go ahead.”

“Aren’t you going?”

“No.”

“Why not?”

“It’s the same every year, I’ve heard it before.”

She frowned, “Fine.” She grabbed her key card and left the room, she got a couple weird looks from a few boys but ignored them and stood near the door so that she didn’t draw too much attention. Twenty minutes later the speaker was still droning on, in a monotone voice that was impossible to stay awake too, not to mention the never ending topic was not exactly interesting. She slipped away discreetly and went back to her room. She let herself in, Blaize stood outside his closet clothed in just sweats, steam was wafting from the open bathroom door and he was toweling water from his hair.

She flopped down on her bed.

Blaize’s head snapped up and he jumped, “What the hell!”

“You were right,” she said, not looking up, “It was more boring than I could have imagined.”

He ripped a shirt on, “Don’t sneak in like that!”

She glanced up at him puzzled, “I didn’t sneak, I walked, its not like you were naked or anything.” She dug out her bag of toiletries and entered the bathroom.

“What are you doing?” he asked, following her.

“I’m getting ready to take a shower.” She set some of her stuff on the counter, making everything neat. “It’s my bathroom too you know.” She put his razor in its holder and the lined up the shaving cream and face wash that were tipped over.

“Hey! Leave my stuff alone.” He took one step before she stopped him.

“I am not going to let this bathroom be a pigsty, you’ve only showered once and already things are scattered everywhere, your half of the room can be filthy if you want but the bathroom will be clean, I am going to organize it and it is going to stay like that. Got it?”

He opened his mouth to protest but then closed it and left the bathroom. She shut the door after him and took a shower.

He could tell already that this year was going to suck, why did he out of all the boys have to get stuck rooming with the girl? He pulled his journal from a drawer and rolled onto his stomach. He grabbed a pen and flipped to a blank page and dated it. He wrote, he got lost in his thoughts and just kept writing, he didn’t even notice Jaide come out of the bathroom.

It wasn’t until she spoke that he noticed her, “Whatcha writing?”

He ignored her. “Blaiiize.”

He still ignored her.

“Is that a journal?” She got up and sat down on his bed beside him.

He snapped it shut and rolled away from her to sit up. “Get off my bed!”

“I was just”

“OFF!”

She got off, “Jeez, no need to be so rude, you were the one ignoring me you know. What were you writing about?”

“None of your business.” He growled.

“Fine,” she sat back down on her own bed. “You’re really not very friendly.”

“So maybe you should leave me alone.”

“We are roommates, we should be friends.”

“What? FUCK!” he looked at his watch and jumped to his closet, dropping his journal on his bed. He ripped open his closet and threw out some shorts, a t shirt, soccer cleats and shin guards.”

“What are you doing?”

“Soccer tryouts, I forgot, I’m going to be late,” he said impatiently, he ripped off his pants, showing dark blue silky boxers and pulled on his shorts, he also replaces the t shirt he was wearing with one with the sleeves cut off. He started ripping viciously at the knots in his cleats but he was only making them worse.

She pulled them away, “Just put your other stuff on and go to the field to check in, I’ll bring them to you.”

“But”

“Do you want to be late”

He frowned and grabbed the rest of his stuff and sprinted out the door.

She changed faster then she had ever changed in her life into her soccer gear. She jogged down the hall, working on his cleats as she went, she had them unknotted by the time she reached the field. The other boys were already there and stretching. She wasn’t too late, a few boys were still gathering. She spotted Blaize in a group with some other boys, still getting their gear on.

She jogged up to them and dropped his cleats beside him and sat down.

“Thanks-what are you doing?” he said when he saw her attire.

“What do you mean?”

“You know what I mean, “ he snapped “Why do you have soccer stuff on?”

“I’m trying out, it is open try outs, right?”

“Hell yes it is.” One of the other boys commented.

She smiled at the other boys, there was six of them, all looking at her. “So it’s true, there is a girl going here.”

“Yep.”

“Blaize, aren’t you going to introduce us to your friend?”

He just shook his head.

“I’m Jaide, his roomie, who are you guys?”

“We’re his friends, I’m Alex, that’s Chance and Garret, over there is Matt and Leith, and that’s Bhrade. We all play on a summer team together.”

“Ohh, I see, did you guys all play on this team last year?”

“All except me,” the guy, Bhrade spoke, “I just moved here this summer.”

“Cool.”

The coach interrupted their conversation, “Ok boys! Get off you assess! I want organized groups! Forwards, HERE! Mids, over there! Defenders over there, and goalies in the goal!”

Everyone scattered to the groups they were trying out for. She headed for mid with the boys Matt and Leith, Chance and Alex headed for the defender group, Blaize and Garret went to the forwards and Bhrade headed for goal.

The coach approached her slowly, “So you’re the girl that thinks she can play soccer with the boys eh?”

“I’m gonna try.”

“You won’t get any special consideration.”

“I don’t want any.”

“Good, you will get equal opportunities as the boys but not special treatment, that includes no girls locker room, there isn’t on anyway, this if IF you make the team.” She nodded and heard some boys snicker. “Ok everyone, in case you didn’t know I am Coach Thacker, Coach Robinson is my assistant this year. I am going to save you all the pep talk in the interest of time, according to the new Athletic Code of Conduct players from last year that made the team must go through tryouts as well.” A few grumbles came from the boys. “If you ask me it’s a great idea.” The grumbles disappeared. “I want a couple laps then stretches, I don’t want any pulled muscles today. Matthew, get them started.”

Matthew must be the captain from last year or something. He led the two laps at a brisk jog, Jaide kept pace easily as did most of the boys, but some were winded after the first lap, she almost laughed. Matthew led stretches, she noticed a few boys just sitting like they thought they didn’t need to stretch. She stood for partner stretches and looked around, everyone in the circle was taken, Matthew was alone, he approached her a little sheepishly. “Need a partner?”

She smiled and nodded.

He held her ankle while she stretched her ham string, “You going out for mid-fielder?”

“Yea, you are to, right?”

“Yeah, are you going for left or right?”

“I was gonna try for center but it sounds like it’s already taken.” She smiled a little.

He grinned and dropped her leg and held his arm out for the other one. “You’re pretty flexible.”

“Yea, it helps when slide tackling.” She winked

“Ahhh, gotcha.” They finished the stretches and the coach came over.

“Ok boys, and girl, everyone line up on the end line, each side of the goal and I’ll tell you how this works.” Everyone lined up quickly, Jaide knew it would be some sort of sprints. “First I need a goalie, ours graduated last year, you’ll have to run and be keeper so you’ll have a disadvantage, but you better not be last. Who wants to do it?”

Only Bhrade stepped out, but Jaide knew there had been more boys going out for goalie.

“You new this year boy?”

“Yes sir.”

“Experience?”

“Starting varsity all three years at my old school and on summer league.”

“I saw you play this summer.”

“Yes sir.”

“Ok, anyone else? No? Alright, everyone else going out for goalie step forward.”

More boys stepped forward.

“Alright, thank you for your time, you can leave now.” They looked dumbstruck. “You heard me, leave, you didn’t make the team.” They slowly did as they were told, looking pissed off. “Goalies must make sacrifices for their team, those boys couldn’t even handle a little one. How are they going to dive head first into an on-coming kick to save the game?”

Everyone agreed.

“You’re the goalie boy, you better be good.”

Bhrade grinned.

“Ok, everyone will get a shot, no matter the position, as a Penalty Kick. You get two tries, if you miss the first shot the team sprints two down and backs and you don’t shoot again, if you make it the team doesn’t run and you shoot again, if you miss this one the team runs one down and back, if you make it the team doesn’t run at all. The person who misses doesn’t GET to run, they have to sit and watch their team mates run with out them because of their failure. And if you boy,” he addressed Blaize, “Don’t give it 110 percent I will know and the team will run for the next two hours and you will watch.”

Everyone gulped. So: make it and make sure Blaize keeps trying, that was target.

“Also I will be keeping track of makes and misses which is mostly important for mids and forwards, also I will be watching for speed, endurance, skill and effort, I’ll take everything I see into account when I choose the team.” He raised his clip board, “Let’s get started, there’s some gloves in the equipment bag.” He said to Bhrade.

“I have my own, if that’s ok.”

“Well let’s see them.” Bhrade pulled them out of his back pocket and jogged to show the coach. They were black, “Ok, that fine, get in the goal. We’ll start from that end.” He pointed to one end of the line, “You’re up kid.”

The boy grabbed a ball and placed it on the PK mark, he shot, the ball went sailing, slowly, into Bhrade’s arms, he didn’t even have to move. Everyone snickered, Bhrade dropped the ball, Thacker blew his whistle and they ran to end of the field and back and then back again. It felt good for Jaide, she liked running, she knew it would soon be hell though, this goalie was good. A few more boys kicked, no one making it they ran more. Many boys were very tired, no balls were getting past Bhrade., Jaide was starting to get a tired, she glanced at Matt, he was breathing a little hard to. She was always right in the front of the pack, with Matt, Blaize and Garret.

Up next was Chance, thank god he was the last of the defenders to shoot. Bhrade taunted him, “Come on Chance, you think you can handle this?”

Chance grinned, as he took a couple steps back he stared right at the top left corner, a dead give away for the goalie, but Jaide suspected it was a fake, there was no way he was really going for the corner. And he didn’t, Chance shot it with a curve, one of the best kick she’d seen yet, it was HARD and it did something unexpected, it curved right for Bhrade who definitely wasn’t expecting it from a seasoned soccer player.

The ball got him hard in the stomach and he fell back into the goal, Chance had scored. Bhrade rolled over, coughing, trying to get the wind back in his lungs, it took him a minute since he was already winded from running.

“That’s a nice trick, boy, but it won’t work more than once, let’s try not to cause our only goalie internal bleeding.”

Chance nodded with a grin and set up his next shot. This one he did aim for a corner but Bhrade caught it. They only had to run one down and back. A few mids shot, no one making it, Jaide was starting to really get tired, Matt was too, they had gone all out on every sprint, but they still stayed out in front.

Matthew was up, he placed the ball and shot quickly, the ball sailed right through the bottom right corner, almost skimming the post. Bhrade dove but still just barely missed it. He cursed. Matt grinned and took his time with his second shot, he made it also, it went right in through the top right corner, Bhrade was left hanging from the top of goal, cursing again.

Jaide was up, a couple jeers came from the boys, along the lines of girls can’t play soccer, she ignored them. She kicked the ball smoothly, it sailed into the net, Bhrade was frowning. Jaide knew it was a shot that no goalie could stop.

She kicked again, this time to a corner, it brushed Bhrades finger tips and went in. Bhrade was downright scowling now. He didn’t let any balls past him against until the forwards began shooting. Garret and Blaize and one other boy each got one past him but no one else. It was impressive, but a lot a lot of running.

The rest of the practice consisted of more running, a timed mile and skills per position. The coach was wandering throughout, observing and taking notes. As the practice came to a close everyone was dead tired.

Thacker called everyone too him, “Nice practice, I’m impressed I think we will be even better than last year, the results will posted tomorrow morning, don’t bother me sooner than that because I won’t tell you. I suggest you stretch a little before you leave so you don’t get too sore for tomorrow’s practice. It will be harder then today and I will expect more out of you.” He left.

The sun just went down and everyone sat on the field in groups to talk and stretch, lazily removing there sweaty gear.

Jaide sat with the same boys that she had stretched with, they all looked as tired as she felt. “Hey, you have a nice shot…Jaide, where did you learn to play soccer?” Bhrade asked her as he pulled off his cleats to examine his blisters.

“My brother taught me, I’ve never played on a team like this before though.”

“Well I think you’re going to make the team.” Garret said, stretching his back.

“Oh for sure, she’s better then you are.” Alex said jokingly, taking off his shirt and flopping backwards into the grass.

Leith grinned at her, “Sweet kicks.” He commented.

She looked down at her cleats and laughed, they were pink, her brother had gotten them for her. “Yea, I like them.”

“We better head in guys, they stop serving dinner in ten minutes, and I am fucking starving.” Bhrade said.

Chance smacked him on the back of the head, “Don’t cuss in front of girls.”

Jaide laughed, “Nah, its fine, I cuss all the time, so don’t pull that mother fuckin chauvinistic pig shit on me, big boy.” She said with a grin.

All the boys laughed as they stood up and Chance conceded, “Ok ok, I wasn’t sure, so thanks for letting me know.”

She grinned at him, she liked all of them, she had found some friends.

So what do you think? I know I have a few stories I haven’t finished yet, but I always wanted to try a cliché like this. I have this one planned out and written ahead a lot better then my other ones so it will last longer. Tell me what you think please so that I’ll know if I should continue!
