1Shells and Cheese

ghosts dance in my mind

as memories unwind

giddy girls in revealing smocks

waiting to incline

a passing young lover

thoughts intertwined

remembering days of yore

as we dance upon a line

cartwheels, overturn

head over heels

maccaroni and late night movies

to which we spent hours

in festive delight

waiting the approaching of the dawn

and when morning breaks the sky

where passersby

see giddy girls

hands held high

unaware that we were free

we could fly

our young eyes couldn't take

the awakening of new life

the bitter sweet dawn

fantasies inlaid with reality

so much more fringed

than what we imagined

so then

we'd close our eyes

and both awake

with babies at our side

overnight women

no more restless delight

no more hushed giggles

to lighten the darkened spaces

within our hearts

with death between us

and memories behind us

of giggling girls

a ghost in our mind
