letters from walden

transcend the age, you say?
i'm trapped in an ivory tower of my own design
and from the balcony, i dangle snippets of headlines
and weave a tangled quilt from the opinions’ section
i've contemplated penning indignant letters to the viewers back home to inform them
that the individual is a species as endangered as the mournful humpback whale
but the masses are too wrapped up in the sugar-spun realities of television
and the novelty of a war on terror to realize
that they've lost the art of reading between the lines (except for enemy ones)
still, i am not the only one frozen in this sea of broken clocks
