Today I did hang myself
with twists of pearls
the colour of cream, and heavy,
but so deliciously cool to the touch.

Today my neck is adorned
with a soft, simpering
pink eclipse, blood-freckled,
no larger than a quarter.

Today heat rises from
the solid earth into us, sticky
and sweet, but exhausting.
We are content to lie here,
with the windows wide open.

Today I learned words are not necessary
in any attest to love.
