Memoirs of a Fire

The peaceful look of flame,
Invites all to come closer.
Crackling, speaks of its safety
From the tempest beyond.
The red and yellow shields
From the white of death’s breathe.

Comfort in touches – given –
Or snuck under wool blankets,
The flame the only witness
To the passionate heat passed
Between the two lovers.

Heat destroys all in its path,
A frightening, growing giant
That leaps and jumps in air
Roaring its deathly war cry.

Or playing with flirtatious fire,
Teasing it, reaching for it,
“Pyro, be my lover,” flames say.

Hot cocoa warms the inside
As flames warms the outside.
Inching forward to have the feel
Of a dry Jacuzzi on the back.
Waiting for the noise of bells
And the jolly man in the red suit.

The fireplace holds in the flame,
Trapped behind cold iron,
Unable to escape, break free,
And scorch its influence everywhere.
