The Invention of Gunpowder
O springy woodland creatures
I admire you so
And your ability to be unfazed
By arrow or by bow
Whether we throw pebbles
Or rocks or maybe trees
Or maybe even beehives,
Though we must watch out for bees,
You merely scoff at our attempts
To capture thy true form
We try and fail then try again
As is our human norm
We have continued in this manner
Until someone in the East
Invented a new trick
He realized, soon, that he was in for a feast
For you see, this man of the orient
Discovered this new formula
Of Blowing up things
Bwahaha!!!! BWAHAHAA!!!
And so began the end of chivalry
And all things stalwart
Knights were shot with tiny bullets
As Castles were also wrought
With giant holes in the middle
Because of Cannonballs, as surely they were ought!
And though the springy woodland creatures had thought,
“They’d never win!”
They didn’t know, o poor fools,
The mess that they were in
