Summary: This is not a songfic. The way Jack finds Peter, and then loses him. ‘You belong to me, not swallowed in the sea.’ Slash.

you belong to me, not swallowed in the sea – swallowed in the sea, coldplay.
Peter’s standing on the dock outside the cabin where he and Jack live, overlooking the sea, and when Jack finds him standing there he notices Peter’s eyes match the sea, and when he goes to drag Peter inside, to take him away from the sea, he realizes he can’t.

His muscles lock up, freezing him into place, and he can’t move. All he can do is stand there, watching Peter watch the sea, until Peter turns around and walks inside, and Jack’s muscles unlock and tremble.

Back when he first found Peter laying on the beach, the sand around him read and green with blood and broken sea glass, he called him a selkie, and Peter took him seriously even when Jack didn’t, watching Jack with somber gray eyes that changed like the sea, whenever Jack patted his arm and called him a selkie.

He read something once about the subconscious knowing things the rest of the mind didn’t, bringing it to the front of the mind slyly.

Jack’s always hated psychology.

Every day Peter gets up earlier and earlier, staying out on the dock later and later, eyes changes to match whatever the sea was that day.

Each day Jack can feel Peter slipping further away from him, like a drowning man reaching for a life preserver.

And he was born to the sea, but oh, he has never hated it more than he does now.

you are the welcoming back from the ocean – the ocean, Dar Williams
