One the verge of skeletal
he sat sleeping in the stairwell,
a hat pulled down low
to hide his closed sunken eyes.
He pulled pills from his pocket
(hydrocodone.acetominophen)
and ate them like candies
to wash down with some
rainwatervomitsaliva
and then he slept some more.
So I crept around
on fox toes and butterfly wings,
with a mirror beneath his nose
to monitor his breathing
and brushed off the ants
when they crawled too close.
On the verge of skeletal
he sat sleeping in the stairwell
and looked through me
with his tired, sunken eyes.

AN: bored. Boredboredbored.
