Indigo

Indigo was the word of summers

indigo flowers and violent showers

indigo dresses in dusky nights –

“Indigo” my father would say each eve –

“Indigo darling, the breeze is brisk and violent tonight, and I want you to stay inside”

indigo-flavored licorice, candy drops of pepper and mint

indigo sheets and blue sundresses

“Indigo, it’s much too bright, stay inside for me, don’t make your skin go so tight”

indigo flashes in the night

“Indigo, baby”

indigo flowers and scarlet sheets

indigo summers of change, of solitary dusk and noon and eve

“Indigo baby, stay with me tonight”

indigo, Indigo, indigo

indigo eyes and indigo sighs and

indigo indulgence

“Indigo darling, I’ll never let you go”

Indigo was on his soft breath as I lay crumpled in his sheets.
